English II--World Literature

Students will complete daily vocabulary studies, a study in writing to prepare for the writing test, and daily literary studies.  It is a goal of the class that students become better readers and writers, and, ultimately, come to know their world in a different light.

We are currently studying literature from Africa by looking at Things Fall Apart by Chinua Achebe.  Students should expect reading assignments along with questions for homework with follow-up quizzes the following day.  Following our study of Africa through this novel, we will delve into Middle-Eastern literature by reading My Forbidden Face.

English III--American Literature

Students will complete daily vocabulary studies, literary studies, and grammar studies.  It is a goal of the class that students come to know their nation and society better through the study of American literature.

We are reading poetry and short stories from the American Romantic period.  Following our study of Romanticism, we are going to look at Realism by looking at African American folktales and spirituals, along with other realistic literature.  We will complete our study of realistic literature by reading The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain.
