We are pushing forward. Next up, Chapter 12. In this chapter your child will learn about sequences and functions, expanding the knowledge of algebra learned. Sequences are lists of related numbers called terms. In an arithmetic sequence, the difference between terms is always the same. This difference is called the common difference. It is added to the first term to get the next. In a geometric sequence, the ratio of one term to the next is always the same. This ratio is called the common ratio. It is multiplied by each term to get the next term. A function is a rule that relates two quantities so that each input value corresponds to exactly one output value. The domain of a function has infinitely many values, it is impossible to represent them all in a table, but a table can be used to show some of the values to help in creating a graph.

Now we move on to chapter 6. In this chapter your child will learn how to find the perimeter and area of geometric figures such as rectangles, parallelograms, triangles, and trapezoids. Your child will also learn how to apply the Pythagorean Theorem to solve problems and how to find the volumes and surface areas of pyramids, cones, prisms and cylinders. Problems will have context such as woodworking, aviation, construction, and entertainment.
