HENDERSON INDEPENDENT HIGH SCHOOL
ALTERNATIVE TO SUSPENSION PROGRAM

Since an effective citizen is a self-disciplined person, the long-range goal of all discipline must be self-discipline.

The administrator may assign students who are suspended for 5-10 days to The Alternative To Suspension Program (ASP).  The student’s parents will be notified of the suspension and the teacher is responsible for getting assignments and work to students.

All classroom assignments must be completed and turned in to his/her teachers within the time allowed.  Students will receive full credit only for work completed during suspension.

The ASP has created an atmosphere, in which, suspended students can remain in an academic environment and make up missed assignments during their suspension.  Students are responsible for making up their suspension days by attending the ASP suite as scheduled.

It is encouraged that all students attending ASP come with a positive attitude.  We want you to be successful.  This is an opportunity for you to stay on task with your teachers and classmates so that you will not get behind.

THE ASP RULES/GUIDELINES
  • On arrival, go directly to the ASP suite and get on task.
  • No talking, socializing or visiting during class.
  • Stretch breaks are allowed but do not disturb others in the classroom.
  • You will have a 15 minute break from 11:00-11:15 each day.
  • Your hours are from 9:00-1:00 each day according to your suspension.
  • Do not visit other tables during class time.
  • You are responsible for your own paper/pencil or pens.
  • Lunchtime is from 1:00-1:30 each day.
  • Always leave your area clean and orderly.
