We are having a great year in the DOVE class at East Rowan. Our days are full of a wide variety of activities. Every morning, after breakfast, we work on our vocational skills by setting up and cleaning the cafeteria for lunch. During station time, the students spend time with the assistants and me learning and improving developmental, occupational, and vocational skills. Some of our station activities focus on communication, motor, daily living, work, decision making, and cognitive skills. If the schedule allows, we use a portion of our time working together to complete an assembly line task. Once a week, we have adaptive P.E. and Speech Therapy. We also spend some time preparing for the Special Olympics, developing cooking skills by making snacks, reading stories and doing art projects. Every Friday we have a great time swimming at the YMCA. Once a month, we expand our social skills in the community by going out to lunch.
Everyday is a learning adventure in the DOVE class. Please feel free to get in touch with me at anytime, whether it be to check in, or check us out. Ideas and suggestions are welcome! Take Care!
