Hello and Welcome
to
6th Grade Math

Course Info
Math is all around us.  We use it when we go to the store, when we listen to music and even when we are playing video games. The sixth grade math curriculum covers a variety of topics including fractions, decimals, geometry and graphing. We will answer the “when will I ever use this” question in each unit of study.

Grading Policy
Your grade will be based on the following:

1. Classwork*

These activities include but are not limited to sample problems, graphs, cooperative activities, reports, and projects.

2. Evening Opportunities*
Practice is the key to understanding math, so homework will be given often to allow students ample opportunities to practice and learn the material taught in class. Assignments should be completed on time. Math is a like building a house; each level rests on the layer below and having a firm foundation is essential to its stability. Please review previous material often.

3. Extended Opportunities*

Extended Opportunities are assignments in which the students will have several evenings to complete. These assignments will be an in-depth look into our current topic of study.

4. Assessments*

These include quizzes and tests. Assessments will occur whenever mastery of a topic is reached. This may not necessarily be at the end of a chapter.

5. Notebooks*

Taking notes and reviewing them is key to understanding math. Students are expected to copy and study the notes given in class. At the end of each unit, notes will be collected and checked for completeness.

You will need two notebook dividers for math:

4. Each assignment must have a heading in the top right corner of the paper. More info will be provided in class.

Rules
1. Obey all school rules.
2. Raise your hand to obtain permission to speak or move.
