WELCOME to Ms. Johnson's
4th Grade Community This year we will explore our dreams for the future and work toward becoming responsible and self-reliant citizens. We strive to keep our dreams in mind as we live each day, learning how we affect our own present and future. We monitor our own behavior using citizenship records. We try to manage our affairs better each day and learn as much as possible, so that we live each day well.
Homework
Parents, please check your child's agenda each day. Homework is assigned everyday. During 4th quarter, 30 minutes of self-selected reading each day is recommended. Allow your child to read aloud to you from selections that are within their independent comfort zone or 1 level higher to help them sound out words and interpret meaning based upon context. It is important for parents to read aloud to their 4th graders from newspapers, magazines, or books with youth-appropriate content. This helps to build vocabulary, reading comprehension, and dialogue skills. Speaking and listening are critical to reading, writing, and thinking well.
Please check your child's homework to ensure that homework is done with proper effort. Some children may need help reading instructions and questions or problems; not necessarily in doing the problems. Please make sure someone at home can support them in this way.
