October 2008
This month, we will begin units on bats, spiders, pumpkins, fire safety, and community helpers. Students will also learn about numbers 0 to 12, count sets, and write numbers. We will continue our study on fall and integrate letters of the alphabet with our Zoo Phonics program. This month we will focus on Bb (Bubba Bear), Hh (Honey Horse), Pp (Peewee Penguin), and Ss (Sammy Snake). Keep working on those popcorn words! Please remind your child to make good choices at school so he or she can earn paw stamps! We are having an excellent year!

*Read, read, read! Read every day with your child. Ask specific questions about what you read. Have your child show you the parts of the book (front, back, spine, title, title page, etc.) Have your child retell the story in his or her own words and in the proper order, to check for comprehension.
*Have your child practice writing his or her first and last name correctly with a capital only at the beginning.
*Practice all letters correctly. Use flash cards for identification of capital and lower case letters, and to practice letter sounds.
*Practice popcorn words daily with your child.
*Have your child practice tying his/her shoes and buttoning/zipping pants and jackets.
*Allow for cutting practice at home.
*Ask questions and know what your child is studying in school.
