EIGHTH GRADE EXPLORERS
LANGUAGE ARTS- Currently we are reading the novel Behind the Bedroom Wall which explores the Holocaust from the perspective of one of Hitler's Jungmadel or youth supporters. The main character, Karinna finds out that her parents are hiding Jews in her home. She must decide what to do. During our reading, we are discussing how situations can be viewed from different perspectives and how these perspectives change our thinking about situations.
SOCIAL STUDIES- In social studies we are focusing on North Carolina during the time period following WW II through the 1970's. We are examining North Carolina's role during the Civil Rights Movement and the changes that took place during this time. We are exploring popular culture including the beginning of NASCAR and the college basketball rivalries we enjoy today. We are exploring NC's history as a textile, furniture, and tobacco giant.
In compliance with federal law, the Rowan-Salisbury School System administers all educational programs, employment activities and admissions without discrimination because of race, religion, national or ethnic origin, color, age, military service, disability, or gender, except where exemption is appropriate and allowed by law.
