Welcome to Language Arts Class! This year I will be serving two teams and grade levels. I am an exceptional children's teacher for Mrs. Shepherd's 2nd block Language Arts, my 3rd block Language Arts, and 6th and 7th blocks in Mrs. Rabon's Language Arts. As you can see, I am moving around throughout the day. If your child has one of these classes, I will be there to help the other teachers meet the special needs that your child may have. Your child has an IEP that should be followed in ALL classes. Teachers have been made aware of their modifications and accommodations. Please feel free to contact me if you feel this is not being done.
You may have another EC teacher who contacts you for meetings or changes to your child's IEP. This teacher will also have been in that class as the EC teacher. You may ask for a meeting at any time to review or conference about your child's needs. We are a team and can work together to help your child's needs be met!
Please see Mrs. Shepherd's and Mrs. Rabon's web page for details and topics to be covered this nine weeks.

3rd. Block Language Arts Resource
We will be starting our year learning procedures and classroom expectations. Beginning in September, students will read short stories while learning and applying literary terms and elements. Each day class will start out with Daily Oral Language. Students will apply correct grammar, spelling, punctuation, and sentence structure. At the end of the week a grade will be taken for all five days. These will be kept in a notebook for reference.
Random Assessment is another way to sharpen recognition of literary terms, technology terms, and the many different elements within all types of literature.
This is done at the beginning of each class also. A number is drawn by a student and the question that matches the number is asked. All try to answer on a sign in sheet. Ask your child about the game. They love it!
Writing is not one of 3rd block's favorite things to do! I can see that already. We will have a writing workshop every week or two. I hope that each student has at least one writing sample to show on PTA night....which is September 15th!
I rarely give homework. If I do, you will see in the planner, and it will not be lengthy or time consuming. Positive Behavior Support (PBS) and Student "Bounces" Students are expected to exhibit good behavior that is conducive to a productive learning environment. Students are recognized and rewarded for good behavior. Point deductions are taken from students who make poor behavior choices.
We strive to provide learning opportunities that will be highly beneficial to our students. Behaviors that interfere with learning goals can not be tolerated. Teachers may "bounce" students from their classrooms if their conduct is interferring with the teaching and learning process.
Student PlannersStudents are encouraged to use their planners for every class throughout the day. They are required to write their daily assignments for language arts, at least. The student handbook for WRMS is printed on the first pages of their planners. Parents should refer to this section for helpful information and also review the student's daily entries to be better aware of assignments and requirements. Please feel free to use the planner as a means of communication with me. Simply jot a note and ask your child to bring it to my attention when they come to my class. I'll respond as quickly as possible.
You can contact me at school during my planning time from 11:00-12:30. The school number is 704-633-4775 , and my extension is 126.
