The months of May & June will be very different for AIG. Both 4th and 5th grade classes have taken a pretest that I chose to determine what needs they still have before their End of Grade tests. Based on the results, these are the topics that we will cover:
4th Grade Reading Types of selections: directions, pourquoi tales, poetry, variety of nonfiction Skills: main idea (separating from details), cause and effect, fact and opinion (based on the selection, not personal choice; understanding the concept of false fact), inferencing (based on the selection)
5th Grade Reading Types of selections: poetry, variety of nonfiction, comparing two selections Skills: vocabulary in context and using word stems, comparison, author's purpose, mood, propaganda, fact and opinion (understanding the concept of false fact)
4th Grade Math area and perimeter, fractional parts of a set, identifying geometric figures, algebraic expressions
5th Grade Math converting measurements between metric and customary, understanding the concept of a temperature in Fahrenheit and Celsuis, diagonals, triangles
We will also collaborate with the general education classrooms for the schoolwide Around the World project.
