Wanted: Kindergarten kids ready to learn!

Homework
Homework begins this week. Look for your child's homework folder and calendar in his/her STAR notebook. You will need scissors, glue, crayons and pencils to do homework at home. Let me know if you need anything at home.

SCIENCE
We study the weather each morning and graph what the weather is. Soon we will be talking about the changing of the seasons.

Social Studies
We are learning how to be good school citizens. We are learning how to say the Pledge of Allegiance and how to follow school and classroom rules.

MATH
This week we begin learning our numbers 0-5 and sorting by color, size, type etc.

Reading/ Language Arts
We are beginning to introduce our Zoo-phonics animals to the class. Last week we met the animals A - J. This week we will work on the rest of the animals. Zoo-phonics is a great program and the children love it. Be sure to ask them all about what they are learning. You can check out the website at www.zoo-phonics.com.
Popcorn words are words that pop up all the time while we are reading. We will learn many words this year that pop up! Watch here for our list to grow!
We will work on color words first. Look for them to come home in your STAR Notebooks. We will begin with our color words.
red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple, brown, black

WRITING
We will begin the year by learning how to write all of our letters, both upper and lowercase. We will work on writing our names correctly. We will practice using the lines correctly. I call the line at the top the " sky line" the line in the middle, " the fence" and the line at the bottom, "the ground". These terms might help you reinforce what your child is learning in my classroom.
We will also begin working on drawing a picture of ourselves. Some students may already know how to do this and they will begin working on adding more details.
