Dear Parents:

Welcome To Second Grade at Knollwood Elementary. I am very excited about this year. I hope your child has adjusted well to Second Grade. We have been doing a lot of new Second Grade things too.

There are a few things that I ask you as Parents to do each night with your child.
1. Please have your child read to you every night. Please encouage them to select books that they can read to you or someone older in your family. We are also doing AR. Your child will bring home an AR book at least three times doing the week. They earn points by taking a test on that book on the computer. Please encourage them to read this book many times before taking a test.
2. Check their planners every night and sign the planner. Sometimes there may be very important information that they will write in their planners concerning things for homework or things in the classroom.
3. Check behavioral sheets, sign them and return everyday. This will let you know how your child's behavior has been for that day.
4. I do not mind you helping your child with their homework. I encourage you to check their homework before they turn it in. If you have any problems understanding what to do, please give me a call or write a note.
5. School begins at 7:30 am. Please have your child here before 7:45. We do skills review in the mornings and some children are not completeing this assignment.
6. We will began SRA-Direct Instruction on Sept. 17th. Please make sure your child gets enough rest every night. This is a phonics/reading program that is taught school wide. By us doing this, it makes the day a long day.

7. I am starting DRA Assessment this week(March 31st- April 11th).  Please have your child to read and retell stories they have read to you from the beginning to the end.  Have them you give as many details about the story as possible.  This will haelp when on their assessment.

Important Dates For April:

April 1st- Spring Pictures

April 4th- No School

April 15th- Report Cards Come Home

April 25th- Field Trip to the Transportation Museum

We  had fun doing our Biographies  The children really did a GREAT job.  If you have time, stop by the room to look at their projects and their Keynote page.  They are really proud of their work.

As always if you need to contact me, please call me at school or send a note requesting a conference. You are more than welcome to visit our classroom at any time. If you would like to eat lunch with your child, we go at 11:25.

Have a Great Day!
Mrs. V. Heggins
