Hurley Elementary Moves into the 21st Century

What Makes Hurley A 21st Century School
  1. Students are more actively engaged in lessons
  2. Lessons are being presented as more student directed instead of lecture
  3. Students are working collaborately
  4. Students are problem-solving
  5. Teachers are providing activities where students can think outside of the box
  6. 21st Century tools are being used to enhance student learning
  7. Assessment is more project-based

21st Century Classrooms Have Been Setup At Hurley
Teachers and students at Hurley Elementary are excited about the new tools that have been bought into some of the classrooms.  Some classrooms are being equipped with Activ-boards, LCD projectors, Document Cameras, Digital Cameras, Laptops just to name a few.
The gleam in students eyes when you walk into the classrooms let us know that we are heading in the right direction for exceptional achievement.
Earlier this year eleven classrooms and the computer lab were chosen to receive this 21st Century classrooms.  Teachers made a committment to attend trainings on using 21st Century strategies to teach in their classrooms.  Teachers also committed to teaching other teachers in our school to use these strategies and assist them in the use of 21st Century tools. We are proud of those teachers because they committed themselves to spending the extra time needed to learn new ways to work with our students.
It wasn't that we didn't have more that twelve teachers to commit to this, however finances was also a factor in having more than twelve classrooms.
In the next school year of 2008-2009 we are hoping to equip more classrooms with this equipment and additional training for our other staff and facility members.

Should I save in the resource folder or the document folder and why?

We have several ways to save work on our computer, we can either put files in the resource folder or the document folder.  The resource should mostly be used when teachers create files that they plan to use from one year to the next (example: Quiz on Addition Facts).

When students are saving work that they have created, unless it is a  group project, they will save that file in their document folder.  If the file is going to be looked at by the classroom teacher, it might be better to save that file in the resource folder because this will allow  the teacher access to the file without them logging in under each student's login.

How do I make sure others can share my files I have created in the resource folder?

If you are creating a file that will be shared with other teachers or students, you will need to give them rights.  The rights you can give are read only, read and write, or no access.  What does this mean?  If you have a file or template that you want your students or grade-level team teachers to access, however you don't want them to be able to make any changes to the file, you give them read only access.  If you have a file that you want students or teachers to access and be able to change, you will give them read and write access.  If you have a file that you don't want anyone but yourself to access, you will need to change the file to no access.
