~BUSINESS BULLDOGS~
WELCOME TO SECOND SEMESTER!
(As the first semester closes; a HUGE CONGRATULATIONS to both of my seventh grade semester classes. They rose to a tremendous challenge and 96% of my students scored a level 3 or 4 on their semester end exam or "VoCats". This group worked incredibly hard and I will miss them horribly. Thank you guys for "Believing"!!)
Sixth Grade: So far this year the most excited of all my groups!! Eager to learn and work so I look forward to a new group; although I will miss the last group of students!! Our focus will be on the introduction of the principles of business and computer applications. We will start with learning about the three types of business organizations (and yes we'll talk about the business cycle since it is very much in the news at the moment!) The rest of the quarter will find us working on marketing visuals; doing weekly projects using different computer applications and exploring the web. We will also work on "keying" skills in between.
Seventh Grade: Wow! This new group will be with me for the rest of the semester!! This is the ONLY exploratory class that takes a state exam or "VoCats" at the end of the semester. The test will count 25% of the student's final grade and we will be working the entire semester on making sure we cover what your student needs to know to be proficient in a Word Processing Application program; proper keying technique and overall computer system hardware and software. This class moves fast; but truly tends to bond as a team very quickly. There are links at the bottom of this page for your student to use as practice. I will also be sending home information on the exam. Each student will be required to have a 1" binder to keep in the classroom for their notes. Their notebooks have become pivotal for semester end studying!
Eighth Grade: My eighth graders will look more closely at the business world. They will quickly be assigned a "quarter project" in which they will be preparing a business plan; marketing visuals and then doing a formal business presentation. We will also look at computer systems both hardware and software applications. This class tends to be the most creative and I hope you will ask your child about his or her project as the quarter goes along.
Please do not forget that I can be reached a number of ways!! First by clicking on the link above; many students have all ready used this feature ~ way to go guys!! You may also call me at 704-633-4775 ext. 245 or use my school e-mail at wilkinka@rss.k12.nc.us. I also sent home with the students my home e-mail address for use by either students or parents. This is a great way to stay in touch!
~I LOOK FORWARD TO HAVING YOUR CHILD IN MY CLASS THIS QUARTER~
