FOURTH GRADE CLASS

September 8 - 12, 2008

As we gallop through the month of September, I would like to say that I am really enjoying getting to know your child.  They are learning my expectations as we work together in our classroom setting.  Here are my plans for the week:

Reading - As we continue our journey through Theme 1, we will use text organization features such as headings, pictures, captions, and charts to help us better understand information.  Our story this week will be an exciting one - "Finding the Titanic" where students will learn about a tragedy on an ill-fated ship.  Spelling words will be stapled in your child's agenda.  We will begin our Writing Workshop activities and will also work on compound sentences.

Math - Chapter 2:
             ordering numbers
             comparing and ordering money
             counting to make change
             rounding numbers

Social Studies - North Carolina's landforms
             location and cities
             location and farming
             the explorer John White

Please let me know if your have any questions or concerns. I am here for your child. The best way to contact me is through email on this webpage.   Visit with us for lunch.  We will meet you at the cafeteria doors at 11:40.   Wednesday folders will be sent home this week.  Please go over the work in the left pocket with your child.  I need you to return those pages, and I will keep them on file for 9 weeks.  After the 1st report card is issued, I will return them to you.  Also, sign the weekly report sheet which contains comments about your child's behavior and work.  The information that is in the right pocket of this folder is for you to keep at home. I will send home a permission slip on Monday that will cover all field trips this year.  As a matter of fact, we will be taking a field trip this Friday to the Old Stone House in Rockwell. Then we will get to participate in some colonial games.  Our plan is to return by 12:00 on Friday so our lunchtime will just be a little later that day.  As always, we are looking forward to a great week!!!!!!!!!
