-The correct directionality of reading-left to right-
-The difference in a word and a letter-
-The difference in an uppercase and lowercase letter-
Writing -
We will begin the year by learning how to write all of our letters, both upper and lowercase. We will work on writing our names correctly with a capital letter to begin and followed by all lowercase letters. We will practice using the lines correctly. I call the line at the top the " sky line" the line in the middle, " the fence" and the line at the bottom, "the ground". These terms might help you reinforce what your child is learning in my classroom.

Our sight words are also known as "Popcorn Words" because they are popping up all the time in our reading and writing. These words can be found on the word ring and the flashcards link above. The words on the ring with a star are words that each child should be able to read, spell, and write by the end of kindergarten. Words without a star are words that only need to be read. Please practice these and the word family books with your child each night.
Look in your Star Notebook this week for your first set of new words. Practice reading those color words each day!
Math

We will continue learning our numbers 0-5 as well as sorting items by color, size, type, etc.
Science

Weather is discussed and observed daily during our morning calendar time. We are also learning about various animals through our Zoo-Phonics program. (See link below for more information on Zoo-Phonics)
Social Studies

As we learn how to make good choices and the importance of rules, we are learning social skills. Our center rotations are good chances to learn how to get along with each other and problem solve.
