WELCOME to 7th grade Language Arts!
In ten short months we will learn new grammar rules, new vocabulary words, spelling shortcuts, literary terms, and strategies to become a better writer. A lot of work for such a short time!
1st quarter:
Grammar: In the 1st quarter, know your basic 8 parts of speech so that we can move on and learn new ones!
(the 8 basic?????? Nouns, verbs, pronouns, adjectives, adverbs, prepositions, interjections and conjunctions. Have you ever watched Grammar Rock??????)
Vocabulary: We will use Word Skills program as well as additional vocabulary workbooks. Expanding your vocabulary will help you excel in any subject.
Spelling shortcuts: We will study the 100 most frequently misspelled words. Learn to spell by syllables.
Literature: We read short stories and novels - lots of them!
Writing: Seventh graders write a lot! Students will discover the MPE format of writing and use it when writing in all subjects.
READING: Friday, Sept 5 is our first Library Day. Students will check out science fiction. Students will be assigned a novel to read and will work in groups on different activities related to that novel.
If you have any questions, please email by clicking above or you may call the school (704-633-4775) and leave a message in my voice mailbox #223. Students should check the Homework Hotline daily to keep up with scheduled assignments. Homework Hotline # 704-633-9561 ext 7100 for the Dolphin Team.
