Welcome!

    We are working hard to learn the numerous third grade academic skills and concepts.  In addition, we are developing our personal and social skills:
setting and achieving personal goals; decision-making; organization and time-management;  conflict resolution (getting along with others) and problem-solving.



Reading:
  • We will continue to read a variety of material.
  • We will work on the following skills: vocabulary in context and decoding words, story elements,  prefixes and suffixes, predicting outcomes and drawing conclusions, main ideas and details, character's feelings and actions, cause and effect, summarizing, reading different kinds of books independently.

Writing:

  • We are continuing to work on spelling basic sight words correctly in complete sentences.
  • We will write personal and imaginative narratives.

Math:
  • We will continue to build on basic addition, subtraction (properties) and problem-solving (including 2-step problems); master multiplication and division concepts and facts.  
  • We are studying fractions (including fractional parts of a group, improper fractions, and mixed numbers).
  • We are studying customary (U.S.) and metric measurement (length, capacity, weight).
     

Social Studies:
  • We will continue our study of the various aspects of community life.

Science:
  • We are studying the skeletal and muscular systems of the human body.
  • We will also discuss the importance of healthful  living.

Technology:
  • We have begun learning keyboarding with the "Type to Learn" program.
  • We will also be involved in Internet research, creating different graphs, and creating a spreadsheet.

Please read and discuss stories with your child every day.
Also, practice math facts and review homework skills.
