Welcome to our Kindergarten Page!
We have been learning lots of new things. Check out what we have been doing in reading, math, science, and social studies.

Reading
We have learned the letters Bb, Cc, Dd, Ff, Gg, Kk, Ll, Mm, Nn, Pp, Qq, Rr, Ss, Tt, Vv, and Zz. You can work with your child to make sure they can write these letters, make the sounds of these letters and name things that start with these letters. Your child should also be able to read and spell these sight words: My, like, a, I, see, to, and, go, be, is, the, it, here, for, in, and have.
We are also in the middle of our farm unit. We have been reading stories about farm animals and we made a graph of our favorite farm animals. A lot of our art center activities have also been focused on the farm theme. We made farm scenes and farm animals last week.
Writing
In writing, we are working on writing stories about things in our daily lives. Students choose what they want to write about. Now we are working on writing longer, clearer stories. We try to use spaces and as many sounds as we can hear in words. We are trying to help children be more independent writers by having them write their story the best they can before they ask for help. Soon we will begin editing our stories by looking back to see if we can fix anything or make anything better.
Math
In math we are finishing our unit on measurment and capacity. We have weighed objects, we have found how many cubes it takes to fill up containers and we have put objects in order by weight or how much they hold. The children have enjoyed the hands-on activities in this unit. Next we will begin numbers 10-20.
Science
In science, we have learned about different kinds of animals and where they live. During Z week, we talked a lot about zoo animals. Now during out farm theme, we are learning about the kinds of animals that live on farms and what their homes are like.
Social Studies
In Social Studies, we are learning to be good citizens by sharing and getting along with each other. We are learning to follow classroom rules and how to follow directions.
We are also learning about jobs people do. While reviewing the letter D, the children got to pretend to be doctors during center time. Now we are learning about the jobs farmers do. Soon the children will get a chance to write about the job they want to have when they grow up.
