WHAT IS HAPPENING IN CLASS?
September 02 to October 24
SCIENTIFIC METHOD:
Followed throughout the year in order to encourage student inquiry and to build a better understanding of subjects studied.
Goal 5 Evolution
Main Objectives covered this quarter:
5.01 Integrate ways in which rocks, fossils, and ice cores record Earth's geographical history and the evolution of life including:
* Geographical time scale
* Index fossils
* Law of superposition
* Uncomformity
* Evidence for climate change
* Extinction of species
* Catastrophic events
5.02 Correlate evolutionary theories and processes:
* Biological
* Geological
* Technological
5.03 Examine evidence that the geological evolution has had significant globel impact including:
*Distribution of living things
* Major geological events
* Mechanical and Chemical weathering
5.04 Analyze satilite imagery as a method to monitor Earth from space:
* Spectral analysis
* Reflectance curves
5.05 Use maps, ground truthing and remote sensing to make predictions regarding:
* Changes over time
* Land use
* Urban sprawl
* Resource management
Chemistry will be our next unit, following training on a new laser program geared toward "Chemistry". West Rowan Middle 8th grade Science teachers have been given the opportunity to be one of the pilot teams for this program. We are very excited to have been chosen. We know this will allow us to put a new perspective on teaching chemistry and on student understanding of chemisry.
