This year is flying by and before  we know it, it will be 2008!

****SPECIAL UPCOMING EVENTS:
Thursday, December 20th, 2007:  This will be our winter holiday party.  There will be centers set up around the room where the children will complete different crafts and play fun activities.  We will also be having a gift exchange.  Names will be sent home on Friday, December 14th. Gifts should cost $1 and should be sent to school by Wednesday, December 19th.  Parents and family members are welcome to enjoy our hoilday party!!!

The children have been hard at work over the last few months.  We have been building communication, independence, and social skills within the classroom.  The students are working on challenging academics based on the NC Extended Content Standards (NCECS- see link below) and their IEP goals.

FIELD TRIPS:
Over the year we enjoy many trips to Saving Grace Horse Farm and Hurley YMCA.  The kids enjoy getting out into the community and experiencing different adventures.  This year the trips are going well, and we have gotten very lucky with the weather!!  Hopefully January, February, and March will be nice to us as well!!  If anyone has any ideas for other field trips for children with special needs, please send me an e-mail.  I love to get new ideas and places for the kids to enjoy.

CRAFTS:
Each day the students build fine motor skills by completing a craft.  The theme for December 10th-21st is Christmas and winter holidays.

CALENDAR:
Calendar is a time for the students to interact with other students as a group and build social and communication skills.  We work on learning the calendar and gaining an understanding about time.
