I am excited to be part of the North Rowan High faculty. I am a FACS teacher with Foods I classes this fall semester. Foods I covers important topics of nutrition, food safety, and careers. This class is for Freshmen, Sophomores, Juniors, Seniors. Students wishing to complete a Career Pathway will have the opportunity to register for Foods II in the Spring semester.
During the first week of class, the influences on food choices have been discussed. These include physical, psychological, social, cultural, and available resources influences.
The second week of class has been a week of learning about the 6 types of nutrients: fats, carbohydrates, proteins, vitamins, minerals, and water. The first VoCats test will be on Thursday and on Friday we will have the first cooking demonstration lab.
The final exam for the Foods I class will be a state VoCats test that consists of 100 multiple choice questions. This exam will count for 25% of the final grade per state regulations.
Our next topic will be the Food Guide Pyramid and diet analysis. We will then begin a unit on kitchen safety so that students will be allowed to prepare foods in our new kithcen facilities on a weekly basis.
Check back in for new recipes that we prepare in class.
