Expericence the Magic of READING!
In Title I my students read a story each week and work on vocabulary words and definitions. They read fiction and non-fiction books to increase their vocabulary and comprehension skills. Students check out books on Friday from my room. They also work on decoding skills and strategies to help them become better readers and to comprehend what they are reading.
We are also working on a program called Prescriptive Instruction (or PI for short). Your child will be using the web-based program as a resource to help accelerate his/her growth in reading, language arts, and math.
Please have your child read daily at home for 20 minutes. You can help your child understand what he/she has read by asking questions.
Your questions could include:
1. What was the book about?
2. Where did the story take place?
3. Was there a problem in the story?
4. It there was a problem, how was it solved?
5. Did you enjoy the book? Tell why or why not.
