Look What We Are Learning
Language Arts-
We will be learning about the letter "Hh" for Jack-o-lanterns this week. Please help your child find something that begins with the letter "Hh" to bring in to share with the class. We are continuing to work on the letters of the alphabet identification and formation. Please have your child point out these letters in the environment. They should be able to recognize the letters Ii, Bb, Mm,Aa, Ff, Ll, Cc, Jj and Hh. Please continue to work on the book and print awareness objectives that we gave to you at the parent meeting. The students should also be able to recognize the words: a, the, see, look, like, and can.
Math-
We are deligently working on counting and number recognition. Please, Please, Please! count with your children. Have them touch each thing they are counting and say the number. This is so improtant for one-to-one correspondence! We are also learning about shapes and sorting by different attributes. Please help your child recognize how things are alike and different and how to sort them into different groups. Make sure that you have your child tell you how he or she sorted the the items. The students are also learning how to recognize and write the numbers 1-10.
Science-
We will continue learning about Apples, Autumn (Fall), Pumpkins, and Fall Traditions. Ask your child what he/she has learned so far!
Social Studies-
We will learn about Columbus Day, Fall traditions, and the first Thanksgiving.

Help At Home
If you are wondering how you can best help your kinder, here are a few helpful hints:
Make sure you are reading a story to your child everynight. Even though many can read on their own, having a story read to them is still very important.
Work on counting to 10 with your child. Have him/her touch each object as it is counted. Also, have him/her make an equal set to the one just counted.
Talk to your child about the books that are read. Ask questions like: where do you begin reading a story; what is a period, a question mark, an exclamation mark, and quotation; and what is a word and what is a letter. Other questions could be, what happened at the beginning, middle and end of the story, did you like the story, why or why not, did the story make you think of something that happened to you or that you have read before? Just reading the words is not enough, your child must be able to tell about the story too.
Help your child learn to count to 30.
Make sure your child is getting to bed early. We know that many kinders are involved in sports and we think that is great. Just remember, a sleepy child has difficulty learning.
Help your child practice writing his/her name without a model. Use a capital letter at the beginning and then use lower-case letters for the rest.
