Successfully Educating All Students
Welcome POD 2 Students and Parents!
Our school-wide theme this year takes us on a journey through the living S.E.A.S... Successfully Educating All Students. It is my hope that this school year students find their treasure in learning.
Feel free to check my SchoolNotes website often. Informative and imperative information will be continuously added and updated. Attached to the bottom of this webpage, you will find weekly lesson plans. Please note that plans are subject to change due to rate and impact of student learning. If you have any questions or concerns, you may email me at brantlee.jones@spartanburg2.k12.sc.us or call BSIS at 578-2884.
Also note over to the right is a calendar of school events with descriptions when needed. Other helpful information on this webpage includes links to websites useful for students and parents.
Parents, please review and sign your child's Agenda each evening. Daily homework and project assignments will be posted in the classroom which students are to have written in their Agenda. If you would like to have your child's teachers sign their Agenda each day, have your child bring his/her Agenda to each teacher before leaving class.
Please remember that most Fridays in English we have our weekly DLR (Daily Language Review) Test. At the beginning of each week, students are given the DLR sheet for the entire week. As students are getting settled and ready for our class, they are working on that particular day's DLR. Students are given approximately five to seven minutes to complete that day's assignment. Then, we correct and discuss all mistakes as a class. During the week of October 6, we will continue with a new format for our DLR. This week students will be using a science article, Scurvy, to edit using proofreading marks. On Monday, students will be given the entire article divided up into a new paragraph for each day (Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday). On Friday, students will be using information learned from this article to write a paragraph about scurvy. Students will be given three choices to use as topic sentences for their paragraph or they may choose their own. Each student will need to make sure they proofread and edit their writing before turning in this assignment. Friday's DLR Test will test student knowledge concerning the identification and usage of proofreading marks in sentences and paragraphs. Please review nightly with your child their proofreading marks flashcards made during class and each day's work concerning paragraph editing.
On Thursday, September 4, students were given information concerning their first English project. Please look in your child's English binder in section five (Projects) for the guidelines/rubric for the Autobiography Project. This project is due October 10. The guidelines/rubric will need to be turned in with your child's project on that Friday. All classes have completed work on the title page and Just the Basics (page 2). Students should also have completed their Hero essay and collage of their favorite things. This project has been both an in class and out of class assignment. Students and parents, I appreciate your time and patience as we've had to adjust due dates and project requirements due to student rates of learning. We want all of our students to publish their best work.
We have had a fantastic start to our school year. Let's continue to put on our scuba gear and dive right into learning!
