SchoolNotes.com - Linking Educators to the Community
Hello and welcome to my site...

I am one of the Guidance Counselors from Boiling Springs Intermediate School. I am very excited to work with our brand new 5th grade students this year! I rotate grades each year so that I will stay with the same group for two years. This helps continue the student/counselor relationship as well as with the parents. I hope you have kicked off the 2008-2009 school year with a great start! I will be teaching our district's Lifeskills program, which is a combination of many wonderful character traits, necessary for growth.
The following Lifeskills will be covered this year:

Week #1
Responsibility/Organization

Week #2
Effort/Perseverance

Week #3
Courage/Integrity

Week #4
Problem Solving/Resourceful

Week #5
Cooperation/Patience

Week #6
Initiative/Common Sense

Week #7
Pride/Curiosity

Week #8
Friendship/Sense of Humor

I encourage all of our students to use these Lifeskills during their daily routines, whether they are at school, at home, or in the community. The students will be observed by their teachers and if they are "caught in the act" of showing good character, they may be given an award! This will take place over a two week period! So, get started and "Let your character shine!!!"

I also encourage parents to discuss these lifeskills with your children each week.
You may notice that your child needs some help in a certain area.  Please contact me for suggestions or to refer your child to counseling.  We are also pleased to offer school based counseling through Spartanburg Mental Health. If interested in details, please contact me. 864-578-2884.

Does everyone know what a guidance counselor is?  A guidance counselor is an adult friend.  It’s someone that you can talk to about your problems, concerns, fears, or anything else that might be bothering you.  I’ll get to see you in classroom guidance every other week, and then some of you will see me in small groups, like divorce, anger, friendship, etc. You might also see me for individual counseling b/c you want to talk to me about a problem concerning a friend, family, teacher, class, etc.  If you need to see me for individual counseling you will ask your teacher for a referral form.  Then after you fill it out, put it under my door or in my box.  You can also write me a letter telling me why you need to see me.  Make sure you put your name, teachers’ name, the date, and give me a short explanation for what is going on. Please remember I am here for you no matter what!

Guidance Rules:
-Treat everyone with respect!
-Sit quietly and listen when I am talking or when your classmates are talking (we share a lot during guidance)

1st time-warning
2nd time-cannot participate in activity/game
3rd time-note in agenda
4th time-lunch detention
