Procedures:
1. Language: Focus Question: How do we use a noun in the possessive form?
Daily Language Review: Emphasis on Possessive nouns
Introduce the roots HYDRO
Objective: TLW recognize possessive nouns
2. Writing: Focus Question: How do you compose a paragraph?
The teacher will model how to compose a paragraph using the introduction, body and conclusion. Students will use the 5 senses in a circle map to compose a paragraph. Objective: TLW construct a paragraph using the introduction, body and conclusion
3. Reading: Focus Question: How do the characters differ in the story?
Objective: TLW compare and contrast two characters .
4. Social Studies: Focus Question: Who were carpetbaggers?
The students will be given a handout on Carpetbaggers. As a class, we will read the information and discuss the important facts. Each group will be assigned a paragraph in the article. The groups will then determine the main idea of each paragraph.
Objective: TLW determine the main idea of informational text
5. 100 B/C---Determine the main idea of at least one paragraph

Tuesday, September 23

Materials: DLR, writers notebook, circle map,
Procedures:
1. Language: Focus question: Why do we capitalize the beginning of a sentence?
Daily Language Review: Capitalize the beginning of a sentence.
2. Writing: How do you correctly compose a paragraph?
The students will use the circle map they worked on yesterday to compose a rough draft based on the candy tasting adventure. They will include in their paragraphs an introductory paragraph, body and conclusion.
TLW will write a rough draft based on the prewriting bubble map they created.
3. SS: Focus Question: What is the cause and effect of the relationship of the people/vocabulary.
4. Students will do a cold read and answer the questions.
5. Social Studies: What were the differences between the carpetbaggers and the scalawags?
The students will continue to review the notes given in class yesterday. They will use a Venn diagram to compare and contrast the carpetbaggers and the scalawags. They will then complete the study guide for the test on Thursday

Materials: DOL, rough drafts, study guide, peer editing checklist, t-chart
Procedures:
1. Language; Focus Question: What is a noun?
Daily Language Review: Determine the noun in the sentence
TLW determine the noun in given sentences
2. Writing: The students will revise their rough drafts. Then, they will work in their groups to peer edit their paragraphs. The students will use a peer editing checklist as a guide when they check each other’s papers.
TLW use revision techniques when writing a paragraph
3. Reading: Focus question: What are Will’s opinions toward the war?
TLW determine the difference between fact and opinion
4. Social Studies: Focus Question: What facts do you know about Reconstruction
The students will review using their study guides for a test tomorrow. They will play a review game called “Heads Up”

Procedures:
1. Language: Discuss fact/opinion.
2. Writing: Focus Question: What is your paragraph about?
The students will write the final copy of their paragraphs and present them to the class.
3. Reading: “Visualize” in the chapters they have read from 100 Be, They will share these with their groups.
4. Social Studies: Focus Question: What is Reconstruction/
The students will take a test on Reconstruction
TLW be able to list important facts about Reconstruction

Assessment: Final copy of writing assignment graded, oral presentation, illustrations, Reconstruction Test
