I always try to keep in contact with each parent about their childs grade.  I encourage you to keep up with your childs progress via Intouch.  Intouch is updated on Thursdays, so I encourage you to check Intouch on Friday's.  Email is the best way to communicate with me, because I check my email several times a day and only check my box (for messages left via phone) in the mornings.

In class we are focusing on the following topics

Science = Chemistry (Chapter 19)

Social Studies = Cold War (Chapter 21, Section 4 and 5)

Chemistry Notes:

Chemical Reactions often cause observable changes, such as a change in color or odor, a release or absorbtion of heat or light, or a release of gas.

A chemical equation is a shorthand method of writing what happens in a chemical reaction.  Chemical equations use symbols to represent the reactants and products of a reaction, and sometimes show whether energy is produced or absorbed.

The law of conservation of mass requires that the same number of atoms of each element be in the products as in the reactants of a chemical equation.  This is true in every balanced chemical equation.

The rate of reaction is a measure of how quickly a reaction occurs.

All reactions have an activation energy - a certain minimum amount of energy required to start the reaction.

The rate of a chemical reaction can be influenced by the temperature, the concentration of the reactants, and the exposed surface area of the reactant particles.

Catalysts can speed up a reaction without being used up.  Inhibitors slow down the rate of reaction.

Enzymes are protein molecules that act as catalysts in your body's cells.

The Cold War Notes:

Soviet efforts to spread communism led to conflict with the United States, which wanted to contain communism.

The Cold War Spread to Asia after China's communist revolution and the outbreak of the Korean War

People in the postwar world experienced prosperity, change and confilct.

Led by Gandhi, India gained independence from Britain.

Nationalist movements led to independence for many Southeast Asian nations.

Most African colonies gained independence in the 1950's and 1960's.

I will be placing any anticipated homework assignments in the calendar feature of school notes.  Your child is always expected to finish any unfinshed classwork assignment for homework.

Please encourage your child to ensure they have handed in all assignments, sometimes a student will forget to hand in something that they have already completed.
