Hola, and welcome to Spanish III! I hope that this semester will be a productive and enjoyable experience that will lead to further success in language study. I would like to share some information about my expectations for student performance and class procedures.
COURSE DESCRIPTION
Spanish III is the third of five levels offered in Spanish. Students will continue to learn how to enhance speaking, reading, writing and comprehension of the language. Spanish III reviews the past tense and introduces the future, conditional and subjunctive. Students will be encouraged to use the target language to improve their communications skills.
EXPECTATIONS FOR SUCCESS
To be successful in Spanish, it is important that your child develop a consistent study habit. They must complete assignments, keep an organized notebook, review notes and vocabulary on a regular basis. New material will be introduced everyday. Therefore, daily attendance and being attentive in class is essential for success.
HOMEWORK
Homework will be given about 3 times a week, and will be collected or checked at the beginning of class. All homework must be completed and turned in on time for full credit. It is updated daily by 4:00 p.m.
MATERIALS
Each student will need a spiral notebook, clean paper, his/her textbook and workbook, pencil and a blue/black pen. Materials must be brought to class every day.
GRADING
The class percentages are as follows:
- Written Assignments (including homework): 15% of overall grade.
- Oral Assignments (including participation): 15%
- Tests (every Friday), Quizzes: 50%
- Warm-ups (exercises at the beginning of the class): 10%
- Notebook (checked at the end of each 6 weeks period): 10%
MAKE-UP WORK
It is each student’s responsibility to obtain any work missed. They must get any notes, handouts and other assignments. Tests and quizzes must be made up within 5 days after they return.
CLASSROOM BEHAVIOR
- All students are expected to come to class on time with textbook, paper, pencils, and assigned homework.
- All students are expected to be respectful and courteous to the teacher and classmates at all times.
- All students are expected to raise their hands before talking.
- Drinks and food are not allowed in class.
CONSEQUENCES FOR INAPPROPRIATE BEHAVIOR
1st offense – Verbal warning.
2nd offense – Conference with teacher, possible parental contact.
3rd offense – 10-15 minute detention, parental contact.
4th offense – Discipline referral to the appropriate assistant principal.
REWARDS FOR POSITIVE BEHAVIOR
1. Individual students will be praised.
2. Positive notes or Happy Card sent to parent or guardian.
3. Games.
4. The learning and teaching environment will be enhanced.
