PARENTS & STUDENTS: Welcome to my class' Schoolnotes page- I feel that it is necessary for our 8th Grade students to be fully functional by the time they leave their middle school career in terms of keeping up with their OWN assignments- that is why I left 3 years of teaching high school to come to middle school was to help students in this transition.  Parents I will try to do my best to keep this up to date- if you find it is not please send me an e-mail and I will let you know more specifically what we are doing in class.  Your child should write down their daily assignments and future activities in their agenda.

ACTIVITIES:
August 8th-15th: Introduce Conceptual Classroom: Introduction of themes (Location, Movement/Migration, Individuals,groups,& institutions, Governance, Conflict & Change, and Production,Distribution, & Consumption)- Begin watching and working through questions on "Guns, Germs, and Steel".  In class assignemnts- Quiz on Friday the 15th.

August 18th-29th: GEORGIA GEOGRAPHY & NATIVE CULTURES:
Kids will participate in the creation of their own "Georgia Geography Project", Which will help the students learn their states Physical Features (Regions, Rivers, Political Boarders), as well as the states major cities.  The students will then take an exam showing their knowledge of the physical features as well as describing their effect on the state.  Week 2 of this unit we will explore the native cultures of the state of Georgia- the kids will learn their differences, cultures, and early civilization characteristics of the Mississippian cultures.  The students will have knowledge of the cultures present when they encounter the first European Explorers.

Sept 2nd: Pre-historic cultures mindmaps- due

SEPT 3RD: Unit I & II Test- The students received their study guides on Friday August 29th, they should study over the break, we will review on Tuesday the 2nd.  The unit covers the course themes, Georgia Geography, & Native Cultures...

September 4th-September 18th: AGE OF EXPLORATION & COLONIZATION- We will explore the motives behind European Exploration and subsequent Colonization of the America's.  We will examine the reasons for the colonization of Georgia, our Colony under the trustees and under the Crown prior to the American Revolution... (Exploration Quiz- Sept 9th, Colonial Debate- Sept 12th, Unit III Test- Sept 18th)

September 22nd-October 1st: ROAD TO REVOLUTION- We will explore the causes of the growing divide between the British 13 Colonies and the parent country of England, as well as an in-depth study of the leaders who helped to create this great nation from the turmoil of the revolution...  This lesson will be found in Ch. 6 of their textbooks.  The following major activities will take place accordingly: (Wednesday Sept 24th & Thursday Sept 25th- Road to Revolution Posters (In Class Activity), Friday Sept 26th to Wednesday Oct 1st- "Founding Fathers" Video Series and corresponding Video Worksheets)

October 2nd- October 9th: Benchmark Review & Benchmark Exams.  The students will be provided their benchmark reviews on the 2nd, by having in class time to re-examine the material learned over this 9 weeks the kids will begin to look at what we have covered over the first 9 weeks together.  The students will as well review the information together as a class to ensure that they correctly setup their reviews.  Exams will vary by class, see the testing schedule setup by the school.
