COURSE DESCRIPTION:
This nine week course is designed to expose students to a broad view of computer science, by examining computers at different levels: from hardware and theory to the opportunity to master the skills of keyboarding and computer literacy. Emphasis is placed on development of speed and accuracy, proper techniques, and correct fingering. Students will learn to format letters, reports, and other business documents along with other computer operations and applications.
OBJECTIVES:

8th Grade: Students will continue to enhance their computer and keyboarding skills by creating documents and maintaining data. They will be using Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher, and a typing program on a daily basis. It is the intention to give students skills that will serve them throughout their school years and beyond.

Failure to do this will also result in zero (0) points, which can lower your overall grade. All quizzes, tests, and exams are given in class and on the computer –NO PAPER TESTS GIVEN IN THIS CLASS. Please refer to the student handbook for information pertaining to making up work. I will follow the Smokey Road Tardy Policy as outlined below.

Cyber bullying is when a child is threatened, harassed, humiliated, or embarrassed by another child using digital technologies such as the Internet.
Some examples of cyber bullying are:
• Pretending to be someone else online to trick others
• Spreading lies and rumors about others
• Tricking people into revealing personal information
• Sending or forwarding mean text messages
• Posting pictures of people without their consent

Some ways to stay cyber-safe are:
• Never post or share your personal information online (this includes your full name, address, telephone number, school name, parents’ names or Social Security number).
• Never share your passwords with anyone, except your parents.
• Never meet anyone face to face whom you only know online.
