We are on the road to the Olympics!

Math: General Info: Daily Math is classwork unless a student is absent or needs to make up the work missed in class. Students are responsible for asking me for a sheet if they are absent on Mondays. We finish the sheet in class on Friday if time is needed. We then grade it.

***Math Test: Chapter 3 September 5th

Social Studies: General Info: I give out study guides for test. The test will cover the information but will not be word-for-word. The test will have the students apply the information. In other words, memorizing just the answers won't cut it!

Please sign the study guides and help your child go over the material. Have them explain it to you. Students will get a treat if they bring it back signed the NEXT day. They will also receive 3 bonus points on the test IF they have the paper (signed) and bring it back to me on the test day.

Social Studies: Study Guides should be signed and in S.S. folder. Start studying now! Test date is Sept. 11th

***Landform Project Due Date: Sept. 16th

Forms went home today!

1.     Pick a landform from the list.

Mountain

Basin

Plateau

Coastal Plain

Interior Plain

2.    Make a 3-D model of the landform. (Not just a flat poster) Be creative! You can use a shoe box top or another type of box top as your base. Use interesting materials like clay, paint, styrofoam, paper mache, etc.

PLEASE do not go over the size of a poster board for the base. With 63 projects, we have limited room to display them!

3.    Present your model and explain how you made it, what it is, etc. on the due date above.

**There are some recipes for homemade dough on the back of this sheet (if you would like to use one of them- you don’t have to!)

**You may have to make more than one of these to see which one will work the best- so don’t wait until the last minute!

Creative Clay
1 cup cornstarch
2 cups baking soda (1 LB. package)
1 1/4 cups cold water

Stir starch and soda together. Mix in cold water and stir over heat until mixture has consistency of mashed potatoes. Turn onto a plate and cover with a damp cloth until cool enough to handle. Then knead. Use immediately or store in an air-tight container. This dough has a smooth consistency. It is good for ornaments, modeling, or pottery. It can be rolled thin and cut with cookie cutters. Dries at room temperature in 3 days. Or dry in a 200 degree oven .

Salt Dough

1 cup salt

1 1/4 cup water

3 cups flour

Dissolve salt in water. Stir in the flour, one cup at a time, until it is nice and soft. You can shape it or cut it out with cookie cutters. Bake at 200 degrees until hard. Paint with regular acrylics. This recipe is great for Christmas ornaments and magnets.

Easy Dough
1 cup flour
1 cup salt
1 tablespoon salad oil
Food coloring
Water

Mix flour and salt. Add oil. Then slowly add water until the mixture is pliable (spongy and clay-like).
