Happy New Year! I hope 2010 is prosperous for you and your family.
I would like to ask you to help me in congratulating Will Ard for making All-State Band! He will travel to Savannah March 4-6 to participate in this prestigious event!
If your son/daughter is in ELT/Advanced Band, please sign the permission slip which was sent home with them last week.
Our next Band Booster meeting is Monday, February 1st, at 6:30 p.m. in the VMMS Cafeteria. Please make plans to attend this meeting.
Basketball Band starts in February. Students who want to participate should have brought home a permission slip for parents to sign.
I am in need of a few parents to help out with the 4 Basketball games we will be playing for. If you are available to bring drinks iced down in a cooler at 3:20 p.m. for these 4 games, please let me know. You will be reimbursed for the expense and will not need to stay for the games unless you want to.
We are still in need of volunteers to help sell candy right after school for about 15-20 minutes. If you are available, please email me to discuss the details. I don’t necessarily need one person to volunteer to sell everyday. If you are available even one day a week, please consider helping us in this profitable endeavor.
Thank you for supporting your son/daughter in the VMMS Band Program! Please feel free to contact me with any suggestions you may have.
Thank you,
Lyn Pharris

The 7th and 8th grade classes enjoyed a wonderful performance at the Pep Rally this past Friday. We are now beginning to look at music for our Winter Concert (12/3) and to continue working on scales.
The 6th grade classes will not be having much Band time these next 2 weeks because of the CogAT and ITBS testing. It has become necessary for us to use a modified class schedule so the students will not miss any of their academic classes. The "A" Day class will meet this Thursday then not again until Monday, November 2nd. The "B" Day class met today and will not meet again until Tuesday, November 3rd. Please encourage your son/daugther to practice at home during this time away from Band class!
All Band Parents are encouraged to attend our next Band Booster Meeting which is Monday, November 2nd at 6:30 p.m. in the Cafeteria.

6th grade classes are continuing to work out of the Red Book. We may have another playing test next week.
The in-class writing assignments are complete, and most students did very well!
Please let me know if you would like information about private lessons.
Be sure your son/daughter is practicing their instrument at home.
