Homework Tips
From Publix Family Style Magazine Fall 2006 Issue
1. Make sure your child has a quiet, well-lit place to work.  Turn off the TV and minimize other distractions.
2. Provide materials your child needs, such as paper, pencils and a dictionary.  Ask your child is special materials will be required for some projects and gather them in advance.
3.  Help your child manage time.  Establish a set homework time each day.  Don't leave homework until just before bedtime.
4.  Provide guidance, not answers.  Too much help teaches your child that when the going gets rouch, someone will do the work for him.
5. When the teacher asks that you play a role in homework, do it.  Cooperation shows your child that home and school act as a team.
6.  Stay informed.  Check school Web sites and talk with teachers.  Know the purpose of the homework and what your child's class rules are.
7.  Help your child figure out which assignments are most difficult and which are relatively easy.  Have your child do the hardest work first when she is most alert.  Easy material will be easier to tackle even if fatigue sets in.
