REDO POLICY:  Homework redo may be done at home.  Check your answers in class during the warmup time.  QUIZZES: Must be done in the class room, either before school or after.  See the hours below:

Mathematics Notebook Requirement

Students must keep a well-organized mathematics notebook.
You will need:
  1.  a large composition notebook for journal writing, samples
and classwork and a  WHOLE LOT of notebook
paper - wide ruled, with you at all times in class.  

ALL ASSIGNMENTS must be properly headed daily.  Papers are headed in the top right corner with:
                                                                          NAME
                                                DATE
                                                             TEXT p. and #’s    
                                                                  PERIOD

Compostion notebook is used for:
APPROACHES TO LEARNING:  The composition notebook will
contain all important information including study tips, time
management skills, math formulas, start-up drills and class notes.

    CLASSWORK:   This will include all lesson examples and classwork assignments (depending on teacher) and reviewed daily/or as needed.

Binder or Folder with prongs:
    1.  Filled with wide-ruled paper at all times
         used for-- homelearning,  tests/quizzes
    2.  Graphing or quadrilateral paper
    3.  Homelearning assignments are given daily every class period block.  These will be checked and collected next class and GRADED .

Notebooks MUST be brought to class every day and available for evaluation at any time during the grading period.

Dear Parents,

The following is a list of the materials your child is expected to have for
mathematics on a daily basis.  Other materials might be requested as
the school year develops.

    *4 Function Calculator (Cheap is Good!)
        *Notebook binder - 1 1/2 inch recommended
    *Folder w/ pockets and prongs suggested
    *LARGE composition book (black and white)
    *MANY , MANY, MANY - #2 pencils - every day
    *Red or green pens for checking work 2(minimum)
    *Wide Ruled notebook paper - lots of it!
    *Erasers
    *Graphing or quadrilateral paper
    *Team T-shirt (required for ALL field trips)

Like notebooks, materials will be checked for a grade once everygrading period or as the teacher deems necessary (EFFORT GRADE).

Algebra I, and 8th Grade Mathematics CLASS RULES

          REWARDS AND CONSEQUENCES

   REWARDS:
Students who follow the rules will earn:
    
    *good notes/candy
    *school supplies
    *certificates
    *teacher’s approval to attend team activities
    *teacher’s consent to attend field trips

   CONSEQUENCES:
Students who do not follow the rules will be subject to the following consequences:
    
*first infraction -
    Warning (verbal reprimand/gradebook notation)

*second infraction -
    Parent phone call and/or detention

*third infraction -
    Parent conference

*fourth infraction -
    Referred to an administrator for further disciplinary action.

   DETENTIONS:  
Detentions are usually served before (7:30am) or after school at the teacher’s convenience.  When a detention is issued, it MUST be served.  Parents must make all necessary transportation arrangements prior to the date. Failure to serve can result in further disciplinary action by an administrator.

MATHEMATICS CLASSROOM PROCEDURES AND CLASSROOM RULES

  A.    BEFORE THE TARDY BELL
1. Enter the room quietly and go directly to your assigned seat.     Do not change your seat without the teacher’s approval.
2. Sharpen all pencils.  Check the board for the day’s warm-up    assignment and homelearning assignment.
3. Have all materials ready when the teacher begins the lesson for the day.  
4. Bring agenda, notebook paper, pencils and red or green pen to class every day.  You must have your own supplies. If you are not in your seat and prepared when the bell rings,you are considered tardy.

  B.    WHILE THE TEACHER IS TALKING
1.Listen to explanations and take notes when necessary.
2.Do not disturb your classmates.
3.Raise your hand to ask or answer questons.
4.Students should be recognized before talking.
5.Excessive talking/disruptive behavior will result in:
    a - lowering of your conduct grade
    b - parent contact and/or detention
    c - referral to a counselor
    d - referral to an administrator

  C.    DURING DIRECTED STUDY TIME
1.Begin working on the day’s assignment immediately.
2.Be sure your paper is correctly headed.
3.Raise your hand for help.
4.Do not talk without permission.
5.Do not leave your seat for any reason without permission, i.e., going to the waste basket, wandering around the room.
        
  D.    DISMISSAL
Dismissal will be done by the teacher NOT by the bell.

  E.    DRESS CODE AND GROOMING
Dress according to the school dress code.  Hair combing and/or make-up is allowed only in the restrooms.

  F.    EATING
No eating is allowed in the classroom. NO GUM!!!!!!

  G.    VISITORS
When a visitor enters the classroom each pupil should continue to work alone and/or quietly. Greet a visitor if they address you.

  H.    SCHOOL PROPERTY
Do not mark on desks or backs of chairs or in TEXTBOOKS.  Do not leave trash on desks or on the floor.  All trash goes into the bin at
the end of class (5 minutes before the bell).  Everyone helps to keep the room neat and attractive.

  I.    HALL PASSES
Use the restroom between classes.  A pass will be given only in dire emergencies.  In case of health problems, the parent should notify the school.

  J.    ABSENCES
When you are absent, YOU are respsonsible for making up all homelearning and class assignments.  When YOU return from your absence, check for missed assignments.  For days absent, you will have the equivalent number of days to make up the work, but we recommend strongly that you do the work for the next class so you don't get behind.  Work that is not made up will result in a zero.  Time for make-up tests or quizzes will be arranged individually.
MAKE-UP WORK IS YOUR RESPSONSIBILITY

  K.    *Extra Credit
From time to time, extra credit opportunities will be posted on this website.  Just go the link for your class, do the assignment 100% correctly and bring in a printed copy for your extra credit grade!!

  L.    EVALUATION
Course evaluation will be based on any combination of the following:

     Classwork            
     Class presentations
     Participation
     Notebook check
     Research paper
     Project
     Homelearning
     Tests
     Quizes

  M.    GRADING SCALE (2007-2008)
    
90 -  100    A        A = 4 points
80 -   89    B        B = 3 points
70 -   79    C        C = 2 points
60 -   69     D        D = 1 point
0 -   59    F        F =  0 point
No work=Z:::::::::::::::::::::::Z = 0 points

  N.    HOMELEARNING
Homelearning is given in Math daily.
Homelearning assignments are graded.  
    
  O.    SUBSTITUTE TEACHER
Treat your Substitute Teacher with respect.  He/she is here to prevent an interruption in your learning.  The Substitute Teacher is here for your benefit.  Refusal to cooperate with the Substitute will result in disciplinary action.

  P.    READING IS MANDATORY.  YES, EVEN FOR MATH!  
Accelerated Reader tests must be taken in intensive classes after a book is read.  The recommendation is 30 minutes reading every night.
