6th Grade World History

Welcome to Alva Middle School.  It is promising to be a very exciting and productive year with the caliber of students we are receiving from the elementary schools.  

New student orientation will be Thursday, August 14, 2008 beginning at 6:30 pm.  We look forward to meeting students and parents and welcoming each to the A.M.S. family.  

Quarter 1 Studies:
    Geography Skills
    The First Civilizations
    The Early Israelites
    Ancient Greece

We will:
•    know various map forms & other geographic
        representations
•    develop and use mental maps
•    understand that people create social,
        political, and economic geographic divisions  
        of the Earth’s surface
•    know ways major historical developments have
        influenced selected groups over time
•    understand ways technological factors have
        influenced selected groups over time
•    know major events that shaped the development
        of various cultures
•    understand ways geographical factors have
        influenced selected groups
•    know significant aspects of the lives and
        accomplishments of selected people in the
        historical period of ancient civilizations
•    know examples of significant achievements in
        art and architecture
•    know how to impose temporal structure on
        historical narratives
•    understand ways language, ideas, and
        institutions of one culture can influence
        other cultures
•    know roles of political, economic, and social
        institutions in the development of selected
        civilizations
