Welcome to our Pad !

May 2009

May is an exciting month at Caloosa Elementary ! We will be hosting our annual Educational Fair on Thursday, May 14th. Please plan on coming and seeing our many displays. We are studying the planets, community workers and ocean animals. We are continueing to work on our portfolios and AR goals. We have a lot to do before Second Grade !!! BUT, we are well on our way !

. Ways to Help Your Child in Writing Sentences

ASK:

Does it begin with a capital letter ?

Does it have punctuation at the end ?

Does it make sense ?

Does it have a complete thought ?

As we begin the next unit in reading we will be changing our writing rubric. A rubric is how we score your child's writing assignment every Thursday.

There are 4 sections, each worth 25 points. Therefore, it is very important for your child to check the punctuation at the end of each sentence and a capital letter at the beginning of the sentence. It is also important to follow directions for each assignment so that your child will be writing on the topic and that the sentences go together.

Ask your child about the behavior chart .

  • Look at your child's planner to see about their behavior
  • Come in and observe what we do in class 8-11 AM any day

Monday: Write spelling words 3 times each.  AR Book
Tuesday:  Write 5 spelling sentences. Read AR book  Math Page
Wednesday: Write 5 more spelling sentences. AR Book
Thursday: Study for Spelling Test   AR Book
Friday: No Homework. Have a great weekend !

AR Books

Your child is reading library books in their ZPD range. Our goal for the week is 7-10 tests a week. We are working on our chapter books. Remember you need to read your chapter book after you take your test for the day. Please encourage your child to read a book a night and return it the next day even if they haven't finished reading it.

If you need to come in for a conference, you can reach me by email from this site or at gayhp@leeschools.net . Thanks.
