Math

This week and next week we will be working on preparing for the next District Assessment test. It is covering several skills that we have already studied in class. So we will be reviewing prime and composite numbers, factor trees, common factors between numbers and finding the greatest common factor. We will also be reviewing multiplication and division using larger numbers. You can help your child prepare for these assessments by checking over his/her daily math homework and by reviewing the lessons with the "on line" math book at the following website: www.pearsonsuccessnet.com

I've already sent home your child's individual passwords and user names.

Reading

This week will be finishing Unit 5 in our reading book. Then we will complete our Show What you Know for Unit 5. Please watch for the small colored papers in next Monday's packet to see how your child did on the Spelling, Lanugage, and Reading end of the unit tests.

The Accelerated Reader program is part of your child's reading responsibilities.  It is your fifth grader's responsibility to read independently for AR every evening (including weekends) in order to made their AR goals. Meeting the AR goals and your child's accuracy on their AR tests are included in the reading grade on the report card. Please look for the AR  paper stapled to the graded papers packet in the parent every Monday to see your child's progress in AR work.

Spelling

We will be taking a spelling test every Friday. There will be homework assigned every night Monday through Thursday.  Your child should have a typed spelling list in his/her green homework folder every Monday.

Language

We have been studying adjectives this unit in Grammar. We will test on them with the end of Unit 5 grammar test

                        Science

We will be studying about the different systems in the human body this last quarter. Each child will have a stapled packet of notes about these systems to complete in class. We will have a guest speaker on May 26 to speak about Puberty and growth changes. The visitor is from the FGCU Kleist Health Education Center.

Social Studies

This last quarter we will be studying the 3 branches of the US government. There will be a homework project to complete. We will be reading abou the 3 branches of government in our textbooks and in a special foldable.
