May 11-15 

Monday- Students will review words for unit 6 with a Bingo game/ Word Wisdom

HW:  Study for Unit 6 review

Turn in stories for contest from Shells by Tuesday or you will not be entered!

Stories MUST be turned in Friday or a zero will be assigned.

Tuesday- Students will take Unit 6 review.  Students will read or work on power point projects if they finish early.

Wednesday- Library day---Bring I.D.'s and library books---Each class will receive their test results from Unit 6--then we will walk as a class to the library.  Remember to turn your lights off at 9:00 pm tonight for 1 minute!

Thursday - Students will complete Word Wisdom lesson Disaster Films pages 138-143. Each class will read the story and go over the words together.

 Finish Disaster Films if this is not done in class. 

Friday-  Students will read stories from Shells lesson with small groups.   We will also play flyswatter vocab. to review Unit 7 part 1.

A vocabulary quiz will be given on all the review words.  Students will work on their A.R. goals or Study Island.  If there is any make-up work this will be the time to finish it before interims are finalized!

Wednesday-  Library day!  Students will have the opportunity to go to the library in small groups.  Students will also read The Breadwinner in their Daybooks with a partner and answer corresponding questions.

Thursday-  Students will complete lessons 8-10 in their Daybooks and respond to questions.

Friday-  Students will review for the mid-term exam.   Students will create a foldable to assist them in studying for their mid-term exam.

LAST WEEK'S ASSIGNMENTS

December  1st-5th

Cereal box BOOK REPORTS are DUE WEDNESDAY OF THIS WEEK!!!

I will be taking off points for late reports (30 points per day) from a total of 200 points possible.  Students will be working on these projects in class ALL Monday and Tuesday!  They will even have the opportunity to type and print out anything they need in class on these days!  There should be NO reason why these projects are not TURNED IN ON TIME!!!!!!

If a student does not have a cereal box, they can just bring allof the completed items in, and I will make sure they are given a box to put the items on!  If your child needs art supplies or paper, they are also able to borrow this from me!  

MONDAY- Students will work in class on their cereal box book reports.  They will be given the opportunity to type and print any items they need.

TUESDAY- Students will be given all class period to work on their cereal box book reports.  They will be given another chance to create their games, print, or type up any info they need to for this project.

WEDNESDAY-students will turn in their projects.  We will be completing the STAR reading test on line in the computer lab today.

THURSDAY-We will begin the next section of REWARDS plus application lesson 9 and complete the fluency timings and comprehension.   Students will finish application lesson 9 expository writing and response including planning box.  This will be homework if not completed in class. 

FRIDAY-  Word Wisdom lesson UNIT 3 Part 1  Students will complete this lesson in class with a partner.

If this is not finished in class, it will be assigned as homework.

Thursday-  Rewards Blue book pgs. 75-79   Read story with a partner,  then complete fluency practice with Hot and COLD timing.  Graph scores in goal folders.  I will introduce the words with students at the beginning of the period. 

Friday- Students will complete the rest of application lesson 7 in Rewards Plus Blue book.  This includes extended response with a planning box.

Monday- Students will read about the ozone layer in Word Wisdom

Pages 122-125  A story about the atmosphere and ways to protect it.

The focus of the vocabulary is on Latin roots.

Tuesday- Students will finish the Ozone Layer story and pages126-127

We will review the words and their pronunciation.  We will also go to the library in groups of 3 as needed.

Students will grade a partner's work from the Ozone Layer and we will review the words.  A game of flyswatter vocabulary will follow as long as work has been completed.

Wednesday- Earth Day- Students will read about Offshore drilling, plastic bags, and the environment.  Daybook pages163-171

Students will also go online to take The Big Green Quiz.  This is an environmental awareness quiz.  Students will also "pledge" to make a difference in their own environment by agreeing to follow certain earth friendly steps.  Here is the link  http://www.biggreenhelp.com/

Friday-  Students will work on powerpoint projects in the upstairs computer lab with partners.  This is day 3 of 4 for this project!  Bring flashdrives and be prepared to get done with slides 1-8!

April 15-17  Short week!

Wednesday-Students will read about earthquakes in their Daybooks pgs. 148-153 Students will respond to questions in their books with a partner.

Thursday- Students will read Dragonwings a story related to experiences with earthquakes.  Students will respond to questions using descriptive language and similies.

Friday- Students will watch Earth Science IN ACTION video about earthquakes and answer 10 comprehension questions.  Students will also watch short clips of actual earthquake footage from NOVA-The Day the Earth Shook. 

Homework- Accelerated Reader 20-30 minutes each night in order to ensure goals are met!

March 30-April 3, 2009

Monday-  Students will read The Great Rift Valley of Africa-Lesson 12 Rewards Plus.  Students will need to answer all questions after a class discussion about the Rift Valley.  They will be responsible for completing the summary planning box in their book at home if this is not done in class.

Tuesday-  Application lesson 13 Rewards Plus (Sherpas)  Students will read the story and answer questions from pages 119-125 ---Students will complete the planning box on page 126 Describe how a Sherpa's life is different from your own.

Wednesday- Word Wisdom- A Dictionary Defined.  Pages 100-105.  Students will finish pages 104-105 for homework. (if not finished in class)

Thursday- Students will be in upstairs computer lab room 6217 to work on assigned PowerPoint projects with partners.  

Friday- Students will continue to work on their PowerPoint projects with their partners in the upstairs computer lab.

Students will begin a Reader's Theater activity.  We will discuss intonation, prosody, and reader's voice.  Students will work in groups to learn their script and practice it within their groups.

Students will read a lesson about kanji ( Chinese characters) and answer comprehension questions.  ACCELERATED READER

Wednesday 

Students will practice kanji characters and receive a translation paper with their name written in Manga format.  Students will also receive practice sheets of kanji.

 HOMEWORK:  students will create 3 sentences using the kanji

handouts and translate the symbols into english.  (100 points will be given for students that turn in 3 sentences and the Manga name translation.  These sentences must be written neatly and be clearly in order to get the total # of points.)  If students want to earn up to 200 points, they will create a project at home using these kanji symbols and their names.  They must however be creative and neat in order to get extra points.

LIBRARY DAY AS NEEDED -- MAKE SURE TO HAVE YOUR STUDENT ID!!!

Thursday-

Read the story THE HOUSE and discuss Point of view.  Students will be given a "secret" point of view and their classmates will try to guess who they are!  They will then create their own point of view and work with partners to explore this. 

Students will  present projects that are completed from the kanji lesson.

Friday-  Students will practice prosody, intonation, and fluency skills by reading the passage from Rewards Plus.  Students will take a quiz on words from lessons 11 &  12

WEEK OF March 2-6, 2009

MONDAY 

Finish movie The Butter Cream Gang--this is a continuation from the substitute lesson plan for last Friday.

First 10 minutes will be spent finishing the movie and discussing the story elements and a brief discussion of Gandhi and how it relates to the movie.  Then FCAT Buckle down practice will continue.  We will review Author's Craft--Point of View and read an excerpt from the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy.

Buckle Down pages 131-139 Author's Purpose.  We will do this together in class.   Students will read A World Made Beautiful By Dzine and complete practice questions with white boards.  Author's purpose and Tone will be reviewed.

Library day!  BRING I.D.'s and books!!!  Students will go to the media center in small groups if needed.

Students will complete Evaluate the Evidence pages 136-139 and answer questions from Tuesday's story about Dzine.  Students will then read Two Kinds of American Music and answer questions related to author's purpose (pages141-143).  A review of fact/opinion will then follow on pages144-149).
