Reading:
Each night, students need to read in Accelerated Reader books for 20-30 minutes and record a minimum of 20 pages read in their Accelerated Reader Logs. They need to have parents sign their logs each day. They needed to be at 100% of their point goal by 5/22/09. They should bring a book or magazine to read for D.E.A.R. (Drop Everything And Read) time the rest of the school year.
If students are in my reading class, they need to study the vocabulary words and definitions for the weekly story. Vocabulary words and definitions can be found by clicking on the "FLASH CARDS" link above.Spelling: (Mrs. Rice's Reading Class)

Science:
Students are studying simple machines this month. Students may bring home their science notebooks and text books to review information covered in class and during science experiments. The following vocabulary words are likely to be on the test:
1. simple machine: a machine with few or no moving parts
2. axle: a long, thin cylinder
3. wedge: two inclined planes back to back
4. fulcrum: the fixed point on a lever
5. work: the use of force to move an object over a distance
6. puley: a wheel with a line around it
7. lever: a bar that pivots on a fixed point
8. screw: a post with threads around it
9. inclined plane: a slanted surface
