The purpose of this course is to enable students to enhance proficiency in French through a linguistic, communicative, and cultural approach to language learning. There is continued emphasis on the development of listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills. Experiences with French literature are broadened. Cross-cultural understanding is fostered and real-life applications are emphasized throughout the course.

Prerequisite: A grade of “C” or better in French II is strongly recommended.  
Grading Policy:  The Lee County grading scale will be used.  
Class grades will be calculated based on
Listening/speaking/reading/writing practice:     50%
Assessment of listening/speaking/reading/writing skills 50%

Objectifs
By the end of each chapter, students should be able to:
Chapitre 1:  Les vacances
•    demonstrate knowledge of the travel habits
•    and tourism practices of the French
•    obtain information needed in various travel
•    situations
•    describe past actions
•    discuss newspaper and magazine articles
•    about weather in France and travel in Tunisia
•    discuss actions that may or may not take place; how to express wishes, preferences, necessity, or possibility

Chapitre 2: Les jeunes
•    read French language articles about the quotidian life, shopping, effects of marketing, equality,  and verlan
•    ask formal and informal questions and know the difference between the two
•    describe past actions using the negative
•    express wishes, preferences, demands, and discuss actions that may or may not take place

Chapitre 3: Les loisirs
•    discuss which leisure activities French people enjoy
•    buy a ticket to a play and discuss the merits of the play
•    discuss past actions and compare people and things
•    read articles about Guadeloupe in the French language
•    express emotional reactions to others,  uncertainty, uniqueness, and opinions about past events
