I. Course Description:
The Intensive reading classes are designed for students that have scored a level one or two on their FCAT. Students are placed into one of three curriculum levels depending on testing results; classes are 90 minutes. We use the Language! Program developed by Sopris West which is teacher directed therefore, 95% of student activities are completed in the classroom.
II. Required textbooks/Supplementary Materials:
Student will use texts in class only. They are expected to bring pencil, paper, highlighter, and student planner to class on a daily basis. In addition, students maintain a classroom binder which will remain inside the class.
III. Methods of Evaluation:
A. County Grading Policy:
The grading scale for the county is:
A – Superior 90-100%
B - Above average 80-89%
C - Average 70-79%
D – Below Average 60-69%
F – Failing 0-59
B. Teacher Grading Procedure:
An average summation is used to arrive at a grade for each student:
Tests/Quizzes- 90%
Classwork/Classroom participation- 5%
Homework/5%
Mastery testing is assigned more points than classwork or homework assignments.
Most of the class work is teacher directed and therefore students are unable to make it up unless special arrangements are made by the student. The workbook pages that can be completed without teacher instruction can be made up within 2 days of an absence. It is imperative that students maintain good attendance throughout the year. Your cooperation is greatly appreciated.
