WELCOME TO MRS. GORDON'S WEB PAGE!

Welcome to my class! Here are a few items you need to know to help you have a successful year.

Supplies:

Binder- 1” or ˝” with pockets

Colored pencils

A two pocket folder

Index cards (any type is acceptable)

Expectations:

RESPECT- respect yourself and other people. Insults based on skin color, native language, nationality, body size or shape will NOT be tolerated.  We all have the right to be treated with respect.

I expect you to be seated and ready to learn when the bell rings. Likewise, you should expect me to be ready to teach.

My job is to make this class enjoyable and informative.  Your job is to come to class prepared.

Course Outline and Objectives:

The course begins with the first Native Americans and continues through Reconstruction.  There will be additional emphasis placed on Civics and the Constitution.  Critical thinking skills will be improved through the practice of current events, debates, simulations, and class discussions.

Textbook:

The American Journey from Glencoe is the text for U.S. History, in addition to the text supplemental materials will be used throughout the year.  Students will check out their own text book and leave it at home. Classroom books will be used at school; these books are to remain in the classroom.  CD ROMs may also be checked out to students who have access to a computer.  The CD ROM contains the text book and additional resources.  Those students interested in checking out CD ROMs must have a signed permission slip from their parents.

Assignments, Homework and Assessments:

All grades are calculated using percentages.  Assignments not turned in on time for any reason other than absences will not be accepted.  It is the students’ responsibility to collect any assignment missed due to an absence.  Students missing work due to an absence will have two days to turn in work

Homework will be given weekly but not nightly, it will be meaningful practice work that reinforces skills and concepts taught in class.  Homework will be posted on my webpage located at http://schoolnotes.com/34135/egordon.html  you will need to click on the calendar to see posted assignments and events.

Assessments will be given throughout and at the end of each chapter. There will be a mid-term test given at the end of the first semester and a final test given at the end of the second semester both tests will include material from the entire year.

Course Grading Scale:

Assignments 25%

Station Folder 15%

Homework 15%
