We are a third of the way through with the 2nd 9 weeks grading period.
9th grade needs to shape up with your ASHGE language and reading skills and with reading your AR books. Some of the 9th graders do not have any points yet. The cut off date is Dec. 3 for for your points, and this will affect your final average by 3 grades from AR.
Parents, remind students of homework and to study the rules for Pronouns. They are found on p.175 and 191 used as antecedents in their English workbook. 5th and 6th period 9th graders need to shape up. Several of these students are not doing homework or classwork, sleep in class, and try to get out of class as much as possible. I know they do not realize that whatever they miss in the classroom and in dicussion of skills are going to be on the AHSGE. Parents, just remind them that they need an A or B to master these skills. They waste entirely too much time. 10th Grade - Vocab test are every Friday. Know synonyms. English follows AHSGE objectives/workbook pages that go with objectives. They need to have 80 and above to make sure they can pass the AHSGE in March/Writing Assessment in FEB. Advanced 10th English class is reading A Tale of Two Cities. Several are doing well in AR. Most of these students have already read several books and are taking the test. However, some of this advanced class still have no AR points and it is a third of the way through the grading period. Cut off date is Dec.6. We are working on Subj/Verb Agreement and with English/lit books and AHSGE skills. We are working on Writing with appropriate word choice, concise, and organization.
