Pep Assembly: Our first pep assembly is September 7th! WEAR YOUR TEE SHIRT which will be distributed that day!
Website: Put the following website onto your “favorite” links on your home computer. www.schoolnotes.com/44312/seniorclass.html. All of our activities and announcements will be listed on this site. Have your parents check it out as well.
S.A.T. and A.C.T: Make sure you stop by your counselor’s office and pick up an A.C.T or S.A.T packet. If you’re planning on attending college next f all, you have to take the test! You need to start filling those out soon! Make use of the online SAT and ACT tutorials...go to Ellet.org and click on SAT and ACT. Use your student ID as your password.
Dues: Dues: Dues will be $130. They are due BY October 30th! For every box of candy you sold, $20 will be credited toward your dues. No dues, no participation in senior activities. Dues pay for two tee shirts; DVD, yearbook, Elletian Star subscription, all graduation costs including cap and gown, Senior Week activities, pep assembly materials, seminar costs, and senior class gift. They do NOT pay for graduation announcements or prom or admissions to activities outside of Senior Week.
Senior Pictures: If you haven’t scheduled your senior pictures, please do so! Deadline is by Christmas Break! Robert Williams Studios 330-633-2291 will schedule you when you call.
Baby Picture Slide Show Baby picture and a senior picture need to be turned in to Mrs. Baltrinic in room 113 before Christmas break. The show is part of the Senior DVD and will be shown at Graduation. No pictures....you won’t be featured in the slide show!
Senior Career Passport Portfolio: Every senior graduating from the public schools in the state of Ohio is expected to have a senior career passport. If you are behind in your documents, or need to update them, your files are in the library PEP (Personal Education Plan) files, which you can sign out to review. Check the website: www.apscareers.com site, go to the Information and Forms link, then scroll down to the Career Passport section. There is a Power Point overview for each of the documents in the portfolio. Your senior English teacher will be working with you to complete these documents, but you are wholly responsible for making certain they are up to date. You can also copy your forms and mail them along with college application, scholarship applications, or job applications. Take advantage of this work!
Senior Advisory Senior Advisory meets the 1st and 3rd Thursday of every month. Come to room 113 at 7:30 to help the senior officers plan out the senior activities. Members of the Advisory make all the deciisons. Check the above calendar for dates.
Clean up your websites and email addresses Be aware that scholarship committees and college advisory committees and employers search for your websites and email accounts. Displaying websites with illegal or questionable material and using email accounts with character-questioning labels (i.e. hotbabeforyou@aol.com) is not going to garner scholarship dollars, awards, or jobs (at least not jobs of which your mom would be proud.) Clean these up, please, now! Also know that if organizations in which you are involved have bylaws which include dismissal clauses for inappropriate behavior, posting your sites with questionable material is a "confession" of doing these activities and can be used for membership removal.
Back to Top Information for the end of the school year:

2. Permission forms must be turned in in order to participate!

Grand March and Prom business
S Grand March (4:30)
Prom (6:00)
After Prom at 11:30! (Akron University Rec center)
Grand March:
This is a tradition at Ellet, started in 2002. Grand March is a gift from the underclassmen to the seniors. You can drop off your date or carmates at the front of the building, then park cars in the back of the building using the police and adults directions for car placement. Pick up your announcement form from the lobby table. Then, travel down the front hall to the auditorium and you will enter the auditorium to be announced. Hand Coach Yost your announcement form. You will then walk BEHIND the centerpiece on the stage, then walk through it, stop and allow guests to take pictures. Upon leaving the stage, you will receive your prom favor. The ECE children will serve as flower girls/boys to lead in the Prom attendees, and the NHS Senior Citizen Prom King and Queen will lead in the Prom attendees and award them with their prom gifts as they leave the stage. Then, you go to your car. After everyone is announced, parents can go to the parking lot and watch as the seniors are led off by a police escort to the prom. There will be plenty of time for parents to get to the parking lot to see the procession leave. A GREAT photo opportunity for parents and friends!
Prom Information:
• St. Nicholas Church
• May 24 2008
• 6:00 p.m.—10:00
• Cost: $80 a couple, $40 a single. This covers your Grand March, Prom favor, DINNER (which will have three entrees!) dessert, decorations, DJ, and all the other incidentals that go with such a huge affair. Many of our fund raising activities have helped offset the cost of Prom, thus the reason why we keep the price reasonable.
• Dress Code: Gentlemen – formal dress suit or tuxedo, proper dress shoes
Ladies – formal evening dress, no cleavage, butts, or bellies are to be shown, proper dress shoes
(As discussed in class meetings – appropriate and respectful coverage is expected. Inappropriate apparel will result in denial of entry to prom. That translates to NO bellies, butts or breasts! Gentlemen, make certain your date follows these guidelines.)
• This is a school-related function. Any inappropriate behavior will result in removal from the prom and possible denial of attending graduation ceremonies. Inappropriate dancing is NOT allowed. No “spooning.” No rubbing, grinding, etc. You get the idea! This is a Prom not a night club! NO INAPPROPRIATE DANCING AND BEHAVIOR WILL BE PERMITTED.
• All school and Akron Board of Education rules are applicable.
• Upon arrival at St. Nicholas-you will NOT be permitted to leave and return. Once you leave, you are not permitted to return.
• Smoking is prohibited by state law.
The below decisions are organized by Senior Advisory, and voted on by the class at a class meeting.

Prom Behavior: NO INAPPROPRIATE DANCING AND BEHAVIOR WILL BE PERMITTED. This is a high school DANCE, not a night club. Please do not believe that inappropriate behavior will be tolerated. You and your date will be asked to leave if your dancing and behavior is inappropriate or suggestive. There will be no "utensil" dancing....no "spooning!"
After Prom. ATTENTION SENIOR PARENTS: The After Prom Committee needs your help!!! We are soliciting donations for our After Prom event. We are asking for merchandise, promotional items, cash or gift certificates to be used for door prizes or to help defray the cost of the party itself. GRADUATION INFORMATION
Commencement is a formal occasion. To maintain the appropriate decorum, we enlist your help to work with us to produce a memorable program for our students. With this goal in mind; the following suggestions are made.
Pictures will be taken by the official school photographer after the ceremony in the old gym. These will be available to purchase.
Each graduate will have six (6) tickets for graduation. Additional tickets will be available for purchase from Mr. Bradford during Senior Week. The cost of the additional tickets will be $5.00 each, CASH ONLY. Two additional tickets can be purchased by each graduate. Please do not tell friends or relatives to come to the gymnasium without a ticket in the hope of being admitted. NO ONE WILL BE ADMITTED WITHOUT A TICKET. Small children and babies must also have tickets to be admitted into the ceremony.
Any break of the expected behavioral standards will result in the withholding of the diploma. A conference will be held in the school office at a later date to discuss the problem. Ask parents to not cheer, whistle, or yell at the graduates while receiving diploma covers. This detracts from the formal ceremony.
GRADUATES…
BE AT ELLET AT 6:15 SHARP!!! Seniors will be meeting in the cafeteria hallway, and must be there AT 6:15!!!
Prior to the ceremony, you are NOT permitted in the gym in your cap and gown.
Dress appropriately. Ladies should wear a light colored dress or skirt. Gentlemen look best in a white shirt and tie with dress pants (NO JEANS.)
Shoes must be dress shoes. No tennis shoes, and no flip flops or shoes too dangerous to walk up and down steps or across the stage. Use common sense in dress shoe selection. Nothing could be more embarrassing than tripping while getting your diploma.
Maintain an attitude in keeping with the seriousness of the occasion. Pay attention to what you are supposed to do until the ceremony is over and all graduates have left the gymnasium. Walk to and from your seat to receive your diploma cover without stopping, strutting, or waving to friends. Caps are to be worn on the head at all times. There is no reason the cap should be removed at any time. We will throw STREAMERS at the end of the ceremony. After you file out of the gym, you will be led upstairs to receive your actual diploma. Then, weather permitting, we will go outside for an ice cream social on the front lawn. If weather is bad, we will have an ice cream social in the cafeteria. Cone free to each senior! Yahoo! Stricklands, here we come!
AUDIENCE…
Photographs should be taken before or after the ceremony, not during.
Remain seated until all graduates have left the gymnasium at the end of the ceremony.
An individual receiving a diploma cover should not be recognized by whistling, cheering, yelling, etc. Hold your applause until all graduates have been recognized.
Admission is by ticket only.
Please do not hold large blocks of seats – first come, first serve.
Floor seating is only for special needs/handicapped guests. Only ONE extra seat will be allowed with that guest on the floor level. All other guests must sit in the stands. Parking for handicapped will also be handled. A parking pass will be issued which needs to be placed in the front window of the handicapped person's car. Parking in the "U" section of the parking lot (teacher's lot) will be available for handicapped.
We feel these guidelines will enable us to have a dignified ceremony. Students will receive only diploma covers during the ceremony. The diplomas will be distributed after commencement. Students who disrupt the ceremony will have to meet with Mrs. Hardy and Mr. Bradford before they receive their diploma.
YOUR HELP IN THESE MATTERS WILL MAKE THE CEREMONY ONE THAT YOU AND YOUR STUDENT WILL ALWAYS REMEMBER … FOR ALL OF THE RIGHT REASONS!
The following items are listed so you will be aware of the obligations your student may have. Please encourage and reinforce the need of meeting these obligations. Please remember to consult our website at www.schoolnotes.com. Just type in our zip code – 44312 and check for updates on important senior information that Mrs. Baltrinic and Mrs. Sarver have compiled.
Commencement rehearsal is scheduled for 8:00 a.m. sharp on Wednesday, June 4, 2008, in the new gym, Ellet High School. Attendance at practice is mandatory. Seniors, who miss rehearsal for any reason, will not be permitted to participate in graduation ceremonies on the evening of June 4, 2008, at Ellet High School.
Punctuality is important for commencement practice as well as commencement itself. Any graduate not in line when it is time for the processional WILL NOT be part of the ceremony.
Encourage your student to conduct himself/herself properly at all school functions. Improper behavior could result in being denied the opportunity to participate in other senior activities – including commencement.
We ask that friends and relatives be seated no later than 6:45 p.m. in the gymnasium to permit the graduates to enter in an orderly fashion. Commencement begins promptly at 7:00 p.m.
If there is a need for special seating for handicapped guests, please call Mr. Bradford as soon as possible to make arrangements. If at all possible, we are asking guests not to bring infants and small children. Commencement is a dignified occasion requiring quieter sitting than is usually possible for an infant or small child.
CAP AND GOWN DISTRIBUTION… Caps and gowns will be distributed at graduation rehearsal on the morning of June 6th to seniors who have fulfilled all obligations. Seniors with obligations, financial or otherwise, will not receive a cap and gown until those obligations are satisfied. All seniors participating in commencement are to have the appropriate cap and gown. Those with financial obligations must handle them with cash or money order, payable to Ellet High School. PERSONAL CHECKS WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED.
HOW TO WEAR A CAP AND GOWN The guidelines listed below are designated to make sure that each senior looks good and is properly robed for an academic ceremony. Strict adherence is mandatory.
Ladies are advised to wear cool, comfortable clothing under their gown. A dress or skirt is required with a light, solid color being the best. Dark colors and bold patterns may show through the gown and present an unattractive appearance. Long dresses below the gown should not be worn.
Gentleman must wear a light colored shirt, dark dress trousers, and a tie. It is strongly suggested that suit coats be left in the car or at home. They will be both uncomfortable and unseen under the gown.
Both ladies and gentlemen will be required to wear appropriate dress shoes. Tennis shoes are not acceptable.
Flowers, jewelry, and other adornments are not appropriate with academic gowns and are not permitted.
Students are advised not to bring purses or other valuables. Purses may not be carried into commencement and security for valuables cannot be assured during the ceremony. If desired, bring a comb, hairbrush, or other necessities in a paper bag.
Caps must be worn so that they are flat or parallel to the ground. A point of the cap should be forward and directly over the nose. The tassel hangs to the LEFT. It is permissible and even advisable to pin cap.
When you get home after rehearsal check the gown for wrinkles. The gown may need to be ironed on low heat.
Website: Put the following website onto your “favorite” links on your home computer. www.schoolnotes.com/44312/seniorclass.html. All of our activities and announcements will be listed on this site. Have your parents check it out as well.

Just a brief note. Parents and guardians are welcome and encouraged to attend the Senior Recognition Assembly on the morning of May 19th. Please join us and share in our pride of our class achievements.
IS THERE ANYTHING LEFT TO DO?
The following items are listed so you will be aware of the obligations your student may have. Please encourage and reinforce the need of meeting these obligations. Please remember to consult our website at www.schoolnotes.com. Just type in our zip code – 44312 and check for updates on the “Senior Class” link for important senior information that Mrs. Baltrinic and Mrs. Sarver have compiled.
Attendance for seniors will be maintained through May 29, 2007. The only excused absences that will be accepted are those outlined in the Ohio Revised Code/Akron Board of Education Code. Any illegal absence will be dealt with using the procedures outlined in the Akron Public School Code of Student Behavior. THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS A SENIOR FLICK DAY. DON’T EVEN THINK ABOUT IT!
Any obligations – financial or otherwise – that are owed will have to be cleared prior to graduation.
Career Passport Portfolios must be completed by every Ellet senior. See www.apscareers.com , and then click on the “Information and Forms” link. Once there scroll down to Career Passport. There are tutorials on each document to be completed. Seniors will pack their portfolios in their senior English classes. Post Secondary students need to see Mrs. Baltrinic to turn in their portfolios.
Encourage your student to conduct himself/herself properly at all school functions. Improper behavior could result in being denied the opportunity to participate in other senior activities – including commencement.
SENIOR EXAMS…
Exams will be given on Wednesday and Thursday, May 21-22 – Periods 1-4, and Friday and Tuesday, May 23 and 27 – Periods 5-8. Please be advised that a parent or guardian must contact his or her appropriate assistant principal if an exam is missed. In addition to the call from a parent or guardian, a written note from a doctor must be given to his/her assistant principal before permission will be granted for make-up exams. Under no circumstances will permission be given to make-up an exam if the above procedure is not followed.
Make-up exams will be given on May 28, 2008. Any make-up exam that is necessary to schedule after that date may result in the student not participating in graduation exercises, because it would be very difficult to administer, grade, and certify that all necessary credits have been earned in such a short time.
PROM…
Grand March takes place before the Prom at the high school – promptly at 4:30. Seniors should arrive by 4:15 for line-up. Grads and guests will be presented to the community in all their finery! Picture opportunities abound at this event! Be there early for good seats. The students will then caravan – escorted by Akron Police Department – to the prom site.
• St. Nicholas

Caps and gowns will be distributed at graduation rehearsal on the morning of June 6th to seniors who have fulfilled all obligations. Seniors with obligations, financial or otherwise, will not receive a cap and gown until those obligations are satisfied. Additional tickets will be available for purchase from Mr. Bradford starting Wednesday, May 19th. The cost of the additional tickets will be $5.00 each, CASH ONLY. Four (4) additional tickets can be purchased by each graduate. Please do not tell friends or relatives to come to the gymnasium without a ticket in the hope of being admitted. GRADUATION ANNOUNCEMENTS – are not tickets for admission. The announcements, which seniors traditionally send to family and friends ARE NOT TICKETS that will permit persons to attend the commencement exercises. An announcement merely lets the recipient know that graduation is pending; it does not invite the person to attend the ceremony. Any guest who attends commencement must have a ticket, children included.
It is considered proper etiquette for graduation announcements to arrive in the hands of friends and relatives 2-3 weeks prior to the ceremony.
HOW TO WEAR A CAP AND GOWN…
The guidelines listed below are designated to make sure that each senior looks good and is properly robed for an academic ceremony.
Gentleman must wear a light colored shirt, dark dress trousers (NO JEANS), and a tie. It is strongly suggested that suit coats be left in the car or at home. They will be both uncomfortable and unseen under the gown.
Both ladies and gentlemen will be required to wear appropriate dress shoes. Tennis shoes are not acceptable. Girls should avoid tall heels or shoes which do not securely grip the foot. We want no tripping on the stairs or stage.
Flowers, jewelry, and other adornments are not appropriate with academic gowns and are not permitted.
Students are advised not to bring purses or other valuables. Purses may not be carried into commencement and security for valuables cannot be assured during the ceremony.
Caps must be worn so that they are flat or parallel to the ground. A point of the cap should be forward and directly over the nose. The tassel hangs to the LEFT.
When you get home after rehearsal please check the gown for wrinkles. The gown may need to be ironed on low heat.
Honor stoles will be lent to the top ten. They are to be returned to Mrs. Baltrinic after the ice cream social following the ceremony. Valedictorians wear their medal over the honor stole. National Honor Society members wear their Honor Cords. No other ornamentations are allowed.
The big night has finally arrived!
Commencement is a formal occasion; a young person’s symbolic entrance into the adult world. In recent years, the formality traditionally associated with commencement has been obscured and the ceremony has taken on a more frivolous nature complete with cheering crowds, popping flash bulbs, and graduates strutting across the stage at other schools. At Ellet we pride ourselves in the formal nature of our ceremony. We equate commencement to a wedding – audience participation is not acceptable or appropriate. Please honor your graduate by maintaining the dignified nature of our ceremony.
To maintain the appropriate decorum, we enlist your help to work with us to produce a memorable program for our students. With this goal in mind; the following suggestions are made.
Please take pictures of your student in the cap and gown before coming to the gymnasium. It will not be possible to get close enough during the ceremony to get a satisfactory picture.
Photos may be taken by the official school photographer in the Old Gym after rehearsal and after graduation. This is not included in the senior dues.
Encourage your graduate to conduct himself/herself in a manner in which you can be proud. Any break of the expected behavioral standards will result in the withholding of the diploma. A conference will be held in the school office at a later date to discuss the problem.
Please do not cheer, whistle, or yell at the graduates while receiving diploma covers. This detracts from the formal ceremony. Hold your applause until all graduates have been recognized.
GRADUATES…
Do maintain an attitude in keeping with the seriousness of the occasion.
Pay attention to what you are supposed to do until the ceremony is over and all graduates have left the gymnasium.
Do not cheer or yell to your fellow graduates while receiving diploma covers.
Walk to and from your seat to receive your diploma cover without stopping, strutting, or waving to friends.
Caps are to be worn on the head at all times. There is no reason the cap should be removed at any time.
AUDIENCE…
We ask that friends and relatives be seated by 6:45 p.m. in the gymnasium to permit the graduates to enter in an orderly fashion. Commencement begins promptly at 7:00 p.m.
Admission is by ticket only.
Please do not try to hold large blocks of seats – first come, first serve.
Remember, no photos during the ceremony.
Please remain seated until all graduates have left the gymnasium at the end of the ceremony.
After the ceremony, guests are invited to a balloon release and ice cream social on the front lawn, weather permitting. If there is inclement weather, the ice cream social will be in the cafeteria. Graduates receive a free Strickland’s cone. Guests will pay for theirs.
These comments may seem severe, but in order to have a program of which you and your student will be proud, they are necessary. There will be many visitors present from within and outside the Ellet community. Let us make this an impressive ceremony for the 2007 graduating class of Ellet High School.
IT’S OVER – WHAT NEXT?
THE DIPLOMA vs. THE TRANSCRIPT…
The diploma a senior will receive on June 6, 2007, is a symbolic item – one of a kind. No copy of the diploma is on record and it cannot be replaced. Put it in a safe place! It is an item for display and most certainly is something one will retain, with a great deal of pride and satisfaction. However, the diploma is symbolic, it is not the item a college, employer, or the military wants to see to prove a person is a high school graduate. An official transcript is the official record of grades, attendance, and citizenship. It shows not only that one is a graduate, but also lets the reader know how well the person performed in earning their graduation. After the first year of graduation, contact the Microfilm Department at the Akron Board of Education for transcripts. (330-761-2914)
