Teacher Appreciation Week: A huge thank you to my students for all the lovely letters and gifts they gave me. It is so nice to be appreciated. I have a wonderful class, and I sure will miss them as they move on to fifth grade.
Flashcard games around fourth grade: All fourth grade students participated in a little flashcard challenge. Each classroom had a winner from each of the following categories who then went on to compete for the finals. Our classroom winners were: Addition-Haley; Subtraction-Anthony; Multiplication-Becca; Division-Payton; Time-Becca; and Money-Kaitlyn. Winners from the different categories were: Addition champ: Noah; Subtraction champ: Aidan; Multiplication champ: Becca; Division champ: Payton; Time champ: Emily; and Money champ: Wes! Keep practicing those flash cards over the summer everyone so you are ready for fifth grade next year!
Six Flags tickets: I will be stapling the Six Flag ticket your child earned for reading in their planners on Tuesday! Please make sure it gets put in a safe spot as I don’t have any others to replace them with. Earning tickets from our classroom were: Octavia, Jimmy, Evelyn, Elizabeth, Payton, Haley, Lucas, Jake, Jacklyn, Becca, Stephanie, Tadan, Madi, Aneasa, and Hayden.
Spelling: Our next test will be on Friday, May 17th. The words are: grocer, pepper, barber, grader, polar, tanker, singer, enter, odor, collar, zipper, powder, danger, cheddar, popular, harbor, anchor, elevator, daughter, and victor. The review words are cancel, behave, and tender. Challenge words are conductor and waiter. The bonus words are skyscrapers, collage, barbecue, glorious, strutting, flicked, and swarms. The bonus words don’t hurt students if they get them wrong, but sure help when they get them correct. Super spellers for the last test were: Kaitlyn, Haley, Octavia, Madi, Nick, Aliciea, Becca, Elizabeth, Payton, Stephanie, Sarah, Anthony, Marcus, Jake, Matt, Evelyn, Jaxon, Lucas, Aneasa, Hayden, Jacklyn, Tadan, and Bekka. Continue to practice and work hard on your words and use them in your daily writing. Don’t forget to go online and use www.spellingcity.com. Look for the list of the week to take tests or just play games with the words for the week. Have fun!
English: We wrote letters to former teachers for Teacher Appreciation Week. We used some good adjectives since that is what we are currently focusing on.
Reading: Students are now reading plays and enjoying acting them out in small groups. We hope to perform them soon. Students please continue to read. All your points now will be saved and used for fifth grade. Don’t ever quit reading and learning Encourage your child to read at least a half hour at night. When they finish a book, they can take a quiz on it on the computer and then go to the library to get another book. Encourage your child to read more at home and to then take a computer test at school. Join the Wilmington Public Library book club/activities for the summer.
Science: We made some fossils and look forward to exploring with them further. We will do a final Science project at the Museum of Science and Industry. Thank you to all the chaperones who are going with us.
Social Studies: Our State float parade was Awesome! Students shared their state floats during the day and then we walked around sharing with the rest of our school in the late afternoon. Math: This week in our math class we will multiply and divide money amounts, read and follow a recipe, double recipe amounts, and take a test. Remember as we take our tests, that they are on the skills we learn and practice during the week. That is why our daily homework is so important. The skills students practice are seen again on the test. Doing their daily homework is one way they can practice and be ready for the weekly test. Students also need to read carefully. Each day your child comes home with math side A finished and is responsible for doing side B. Please feel free to help your child so they understand the work, but don’t do the work for them. Students also need to learn to go back and recheck their work before they turn it in as sometimes there are problems not finished. Keep practicing those facts! Math is difficult this quarter. Students really need to practice and apply their everyday knowledge.
