Happy New Year! We've had a really good 2 days back. Hope it continues the rest of the week and year! We are working on our "play" for the program next Thursday night and the kids are really excited. Be sure to ask them what their part is!

SPELLING: we WILL take a test this Friday
AR (Accelerated Reader) is a reading/testing computerized program that our school has purchased. You will be getting a note about this from our principal this week. However, since most of our students in first grade are still learning how to read, it will not be introduced until later. More info in the next few weeks. We will introduce it whole class by spring break with hopefully all students using it independently by the end of the year.

SPELLING:
Some clarification on how many words to study:
Everyone should study list one. Even if List One is all correct on Monday, they will still be expected to spell them on Friday. If they know them on Monday, they should still know them on Friday right? My purpose for spelling tests is NOT to just spell them correctly one time, but "for forever."

New procedure for library books:
Students may now trade books on MONDAY and THURSDAY ONLY. Many of the students are going to the library during instructional time every day to trade books and are missing an entire lesson b/c they have no sense of how long they are staying in the library.
So, they may bring their books back ANY day but I will hold on to them until THURSDAY to have them leave class to trade out. I hope this will alleviate the problem of missing class instruction. We are very busy bees during the day!
