FOSTER BAND SYLLABUS
Mrs. Ahrend

Band classes at Foster Middle School have a curriculum
structured to meet objectives from the beginner band
student through the advanced band student.
Students will be given instructions on their instrument and will be given opportunities to perform.  

Textbook (Must by purchased by the student.)
Beginning class – The Yamaha Advantage   -   Book I    
Intermediate and Advanced class
The Yamaha Advantage Book II      

Classroom supplies
Each day the student must have a pencil and paper
in their music folder, along with their book The Yamaha
Advantage and any other music that has been handed out.  
The folder is provided at the beginning of the year.
Each day the student must have their instrument
and folder with appropriate contents.
Clarinet and saxophone players must have three useable reeds
in their case, along with cork grease.
Brass players must have valve oil and slide tuning grease in their case.
All slides must be kept in working order.

    
Classroom rules
*Do not chew gum or have candy in band class.
*Do not talk when the teacher is talking.
*Do not touch any instrument that is not your own, or assigned to you.  
*Disruptive behavior will not be tolerated.

Concert Performance Dress Requirement

Girls:Black slacks or below knee length black skirt, black dress shoes

Boys: Black pants, black shoes and dark socks
        
White tuxedo shirts will be provided with bow tie for all students, girls and boys.

Evaluation
50% Daily participation             
25% Attendance at Performances    
25% Tests, written work,  and assignments            
                        
Point System for Daily Grade
Each student will start out with 100 points each 9 week grading period.  You will be deducted 2 points for each of these infractions:

A.    tardy to class
B.    chewing gum or candy
C.    not having instrument, music, pencil, reed or other necessary     supplies.
D.    Disruptive behavior in class(including talking)
E.    Non-participation during class
