We are working on animal studies and research skills in preparation for our individual research assignment later this year.
Third Grade:
We continue to work on creative thinking activites regarding 21 Balloons. We have also begun the process of locating interesting topics for our upcoming research assignment. Third grade's topic is "A landmark (natural or man made) that has influenced our world".
Fourth Grade:
We continue our study of The Lightning Thief along with Greek/Roman mythology. When we return from Thanksgiving break we will spend time looking at potential research ideas. Fourth grade's topic is "A person who has made an impact in our world". More information will be coming home after the break.
Fifth Grade:
Guess what? Fifth grade will also be returning from Thanksgiving break to begin looking at potential research projects. They have an open topic, but there are a few limitations: no person who's subject area is above our level (Einstein, for example, unless they can fully explain the theory of relativity and E=Mc2), general research topics that would be considered appropriate at a lower grade level (we've studied basic animal characteristics ad nauseum by this point), or topics where resources are difficult to understand or locate (I learned this one the hard way several years ago). I will be helping the students choose appropriate topics in class, but they are welcome to begin looking on their own and getting a head start on ideas.
