There will not be a formal review distributed for reading class. The final will be process based not context, and student will be required to use their reading skills and strategies in order to read multiple passages and answer questions.

Vocabulary due today.  Students need to have part of speech, primary definition, and write a context rich sentence for each word.

Collect "Sucker" notecards and discuss the story.  Students will then complete a plot map on the story in small groups.

Analyze plot map in class and reading comprehension quiz will be given on the short story "Sucker."

Thursday:
Vocabulary words for The Outsiders were assigned.  Students need to find part of speech, primary definition, and write a context rich sentence for each word.  This assignment is due next Tuesday. Students will then work on a venn diagram which compares and contrasts cliques and gangs.
Homework: REading Response Journal and Prereading survey on "The Outsiders"

Read "Priscilla and the Wimps" by Richard Peck

Wednesday:
Introduce discussion format that will be used in class and practice participation using the study guide for "Priscilla and the Wimps."

Thursday:
Students need to have their reading spiral for class today, and it should be used only for reading. Today we will learn the format for the reading response journal which will be the product this six weeks for the outside reading project.  We will practice the format by writing a journal entry on "Priscilla and the Wimps."  This entry, a model for the other entries going forward, will be the first page in their spiral and will be graded when the outside reading project is due at the end of the six weeks

Outside reading project will be assigned today.  Students need to have a novel, approved by teacher and parents, which is at least 200 pages by the end of the class on Friday.

Friday:
Library-students will be chosing books for the outside reading project and conferencing with me regarding their choices.

Plans for this week are as follows:
Monday: Introductions and collect supplies.  Bring your supplies to reading class.
